After reading some of your guys hectic stories, mine seems very lame, like being hit by a pillow in comparison - but here it is anyway.

This is the worst accident, nearly fatal, i was involved in, fortunately as a rescuer not the victiim. i think there is maybe a reminder of some of the "lessons" here, so here it is. A newby was paddling with, we'd been to the harbour wall for leeries, he was trolling and spinning with big topwater rapalas, the dolphins came through, so upped lines. His lure was tied on so he just hooked it into a rod eye, put the rod in the holder and stretched a deck-bungee over the reel (no rod leash). While securing other rod, overbalanced, surprise swell and over he went; lost other rod. When i reached him, the big treble on the lure on the rod in the rod holder was in his shin all the way. He couldn't pull himself up because he was now attached, and the more weight on the boat the more it pulled him down. He was passing out, gulping water. Got the lure cut off and unhooked from the rod; flipped his boat and pulled him on. We've now drifted close to the shore dump. Anyway, get back to deeper water, now he's got to suck it up and paddle home and land with 15cm rappi flapping from his shin - cant cut the hook off or undo the split ring. All ended well, but was closecall.
Using a speedclip means you can remove and change lures and traces quickly and easily; use a rod and paddle leash; paddle with a buddy; BE AWARE and be prepared always; use pfd, have knife, rope; trbles are evil. Just a reminder of how quickly and how big things can go wrong. My 2c.

Last week while spearfishing with buddies I slipped while getting back on the boat and fell hard on my side on the edge of the gunnel. Still in pain so went to doctor this morning, one rib completely off, another cracked.

Strict orders not to fish or swim for a few weeks. I won't be swimming then.

Nicos, with broken ribs all you want to is cough or sneeze, right?. Every buddy that you see wants to give you a friendly slap in the ribs. It's like they KNOW.

I got chowed. Took surgeons 9 hours to put my arm back together. First 3 hour op (I was conscious) to put everything back in place for the big one. 6 hours the second time and I wan't awake. Staples in my arm looked like a railway track. When it happened I could see my bones, muscles and shit twitching. Mommy who was a trained hairdresser and then a medical rep poured 40 Volume Peroxide into the wound. The doctor said she saved my arm because the Peroxide killed everything.

Hi Guys

A bad one I saw and luckily did not experienced happened at Kosi Bay many years ago. The road was more sand than tarr from Tthe T junction.

Guys were pushing in the boat at the third lake at the camp. The wind was pushing nice into the bay where you leave the boat.  They walked in fairly deep (waist hight) and some blokes were jumping on. One guy( had quite a few malts in) was busy lowering the motor at the back. The next we just heard a yell. The waves had picked up the boat and the skegg of the motor came down on his BIG toe. The toe was only on by a piece of skin. The rest of the crew jumped off and helped him out of the water. They gave him a bottle of brandy and said he must down it. They then cut the rest of toe off with a bait knife and took him to his tent. I thought they would take him to the clinic at Manguzi but the next moment they were back on the boat and off fishing. The guy luckily passed out. They stayed for another three days fishing keeping their tjom heavily under the influence. This is great mates. At least they have departed from some of their liquor to help the mate in distress.

Cheers
