I'M IN THE PROCESS OF BUYING AN 18FT VIKING SKI BOAT WITH 2X 75 T/T YAMAHAS ON THE BACK. ARE THERE ANY REPORTS /REVIEWS FROM ANYBODY OUT THERE, PARTICULARLY ON THE HULL AND HOW IT HANDLES THE WATER. DOES IT HAVE ANY BAD OR GOOD REPUTATIONS OR THINGS I NEED TO BE WARY OFF. BOAT IS A 1986 VINTAGE AND THE MOTORS ARE ALSO OLD BUT ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AND APPEAR TO RUN WELL .
ANY FEEDBACK WOULD BE VERY WELCOME.

Sea Dog ,

With a Vintage boat , there usually comes vintage issues but you will need to solve them symptomatically.

The Viking was built by Glasscraft in the 80's and the predecessor for the Coast craft range of boats that started coming on the market in the 90's.

It takes the Sea very well , built heavy , can take lots of weight. it is comparable in Handling to ACE Craft / Wavebreaker of the same era - very seaworthy boats and will tie a knot in the tails of many modern cats when the sea gets turned up.

some pics.

Ps : See you also had a Dick Manten monohull.- they were just as good legends.

Hi BFC

Thanks for the info and pics.
The boat named Jakes in your pics is actually the one that I bought. Seeing you had a photo of it, does it mean you have history with the boat?

I do have a Dick Manten Sea Dog with 2x 55 yammie hammerheads on it, and she has looked after us well for the past 8 years or so and runs very well. Its time for a change of scenery and the Viking will be a nice winter project.

Regards
Mike

Sea Dog ,

Do not know the details , but it was on the market about 4 years ago offered as Hull and Motors separate it had 2x60 Mariner Bigfoots on , and think someone bought the motors and the new owner of the hull put 2 yammies on - think the boat was ex Gansbaai / Struisbaai.- thats as much as I know, Like I said Vintage boats come with Vintage boat issues but if you see it as a little bit of a project then you will have a lekker boat once youre done. These older Monohulls have all of a sudden become very popular here in the cape again.

Attached is a pic of our Dick Manten "Sea Star" with 2x 40hp yammies on - this was my first boat and she seen plenty Mozambique /St Lucia / Swaziland waters.
