Quick question for you Cape Town boys and girls....
Being a ex Banana boy, I grew up having easy access to good quality sardines... Mostly sards caught myself during the run, with a cast next, dropped straight into a cooler box full of Ice water, with crushed ice, half salt half fresh,( kills them quick and keeps their shine ) then taken home, liad on trays on their backs, straight into the freezer then taken out two days later and packed into bags of 6.... now these sardines, even 2 years later, when defrosted, were bright and shiny and firm, almost as if they had just left the ocean.... Even the regular sardines bought at any tackle store, were usually of a fairly decent quality.
Down here in the Cape now, I have not been able to find anything even closely resembling decent sardines.... They are all just PORRIDGE! I even bought some of those J-Bay individually wrapped buggers a while back hoping that they would be better quality.... but unfortunately, on defrosting found myself once again with Sardine porridge!!!
Any pointers on where to get decent sards down here, or what "brand" to purchse???
Thanks
