Hi guys,
Built this trolley a while ago. Working like a charm. It is, as you can see an old golf trolley, only modified. I took out all but the two outside club compartments. Put on rod holders onto the side, and put on a platform to hold the baitbox. Very compact and light. Fished Struisbaai plaat a few times and no hassles.
Regards

Hi guys I put together a cart that consist of two plastic crates a steel angle iron frame (for now) which is colapsable & adjustable to which I fitted a small blue tackle box that I bought at a tackle shop. The cart has 4 wheels of which the fronts are steerable.Front wheels are from an old golf cart and rears are from a bmx.The bmx wheels dont work so well in the loose sand on the beach but on the firmer stuff it works like a dream. The cart holds 4 rods 4 rod holders a gaff all the tackle for two guys and basic camping equipment. When I am happy that the concept works I will fabricate it from thin gauge (1.5mm)316 stainless steel to keep the weight down and to make it strong.By the way this whole kart fits in the back of a golf with 3 occupants.:wfish

I built one out of old angle irons lying around on the farm, it works pretty well at low tide, but don't try to pull it on high tide! I didn't think the whole thing through before building it out of those heavy angle irons! But still at low tide you can load it full of gear and not even feel it.

On another topic, there is a small stainless steel shop in Struisbaai, who manufacture all kinds of stainless products, including stainless lockable roof racks for your bakkie and very neat fishing carts. If I remember correctly those carts go for under R2000

Haha, I have stolen a lot with my eyes from the other people down there. They started using carts on Struisbaai plaat just a few months after the beach driving ban came through, think I built my cart end of 2003. I just need to replace the angle irons with angled aluminuim then it would work well enough, but I've rather decided on just packing lighter and just carrying everything.

hahaha, that's true, that's why I still have the cart, just for those days I feel like fishing all day, from low tide to low tide, then it is easy go and easy back, but the only problem is if the wind picks up or something and you leave at high tide, that's a bugger up.
For short scratching excursions, a small shoulder bag , a rod, a rod holder and a small cooler box is all you need, and you can walk pretty far with that.

Hey thanks anchorman

I'm also looking to leave it in struis and use it for the plaat! Also prefer to pack light and walk but now with the throw net and drum for harders - im thinking a cart could be a lot easier? Just pack everything on and your are on your way!

Will go check out the cart at the stainless steel place - hopefully it's suitable :)
