Advice needed....which reel??

Hi.

This is my first post. Thanks to all you guys for a great site and lots of valuable info.

I'm still learning a lot about rock and surf fishing, moved down to the north coast recently for work, so I'm spending my weekends fishing.....well trying to at least.

I currently have a 12ft sensation up tide spin (3 piece) with an okuma beachcaster pro spinning reel.

I'm looking to buy a sensation rugged 3, 14ft, 7 to 9oz rod but need advice as to what reel to pair this rod with. I am looking to go with a multiplier reel, will have to learn to use it as I only ever used a spinning reel. I want a heavier setup to target larger edibles; and sharks and kites....

Budget is a factor. Looking at the Penn Fathom 40, saltist 50(although bit out of price range)

Any other options....opinions?
(Will be fishing area from blythedale northwards)

The Fathom is a very easy reel to cast with. Activate the breaking system and tighten the cast control knob and your ready to fish. With time as you get better you can start to loosen up on everything and get better distances.

Yes it is capable! But if you are only going to target sharks you might want to look at the Daiwa Saltist or Shimano Torium aswell.
