Largemouth Yellowfish

We arrived at a quiet unpressurized spot on the vaal at about 5:30am October, early summer, the smallmouth yellows were on the bite, we had pulled in about 250 of them between 3 fisherman on the fly till about 2pm. We came out on to the bank and at lunch time, as per usual, we threw one barbel rod out to the left of us into the deeper water on a small grass carp head. The barbel were on the run, so we pulled in about 11 decent 9-13kg barbel on a light Fenwick HMG with a Shimano 2500FJ. Lunch was almost done before I threw one more cast on a new head. We were preparing our rigs for the next afternoon session of smallmouth fun when I heard a ZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz... Shimano music, the rod had been saved as it got stuck on the stand holding it. I lifted tightened and struck, as I struck the rod, there was a huge leap of a whitish figure in the distance, I thought to myself, it must be a yellow spooking by the activity of the barbel beneath, not only to realize that, the white figure was in fact on the others end of my line. After a 38min fight, the fish approached the bank, and on approach, I got the shock of my life, there it was, the very first Largemouth Yellowfish I had ever seen up close. All I thought to myself, was, "don't lose it, don't lose it". A sigh of relief had done its rounds amongst the three of us. We admired the 19lb fish and took lots of pictures as this would be the fish of a life time...

I would love to see a pic of that largemouth yellow!

Congrats on a great session none the less!
