I think it's a silver siligo or sand smelt. They taste similar to a prawn when you cook them and make deadly live bait.

haha I love how there are so many names for fish. Seriously though...Cleaned and heads off then baked in the oven with a little fish spice, tastes like a prawn lol.

Some advise if you don't mind. I've caught smelt on the banks with mince and a super light outfit, like you said, delicious.

But what we've called banana fish, we catch deep sea and we've always thrown them back, didn't know that they were good eating. This is the one with the big mouth and razor teeth that could swallow itself.

Is this the one that tastes like prawns?

No the one with big mouth and teeth is a lizard fish. They're supposed to be good live bait but I can't say other than what I've heard. I've only eaten the silver siligo and found them to be very prawn like, at least fairly close lol.

Regarding the usage of silver sillago as live bait, I can guarantee you that it works. I have had huge runs, unfortunately because of being unexperienced and under geared at the time I came second best.
