Caught my first katonkel

Went out this morning on Dream On. Picked up a nice tail on deapdiver. But before that I got totally annihilated in my home made bungee. I just heard twaing and saw the rubber jump past me.  Then I looked at the rod in the holder and saw it was bent in a very uncomfortable position. My little Penn was stripped to the drum. Long wind up and I nearly jumped overboard of joy when I saw what it was. Oops, no gaff or club on board. Just took it by the leader and pulled it over the pontoon. We then picked up 6 katonkel and another nice tail.

Had some fresh tail for supper.

Awesome! I saw a massive shoal of fish behind the backline of tableview, cruising up and down about three weeks ago, easily within casting distance..Fish busting for a few hundred meters and birds diving and no rod around! This confirms what they were to me, I though they looked like katonkel. Were there always this many katonkel in the cape in the past, have I just never noticed them? Either way it looks like a good season is coming up.. Lekker catches again mate!

Reading up about this fish ,it seems it’s not too common on that side of the coast …or do they frequent the waters there as well

Mostly hotties close to the side. Still waiting for the cob to get on the bite. Caught a 2kg specimen last night after work in the howling southeaster.
