We got it on the leader and let it go. It was a tad bigger than the first fish, maybe 250 but much stronger.

The beers were flowing as we made our way back!

What a way to finish the day and the trip…

Hey L Hooker stop drooling and get up here...

Looking forward to seeing you in November Fao!!!

Man, the weather as been an absolute jewel but of course it turns shit when I start fishing on Monday!!!

Alex went out on VAMIZI today and they slaughter the gamefish - catching / releasing over twenty YFT, some cuda, bonnies and kingfish! They tried for Marlin for a few hours and missed a fish about 300 on a live bait. On the way back they had a pack attack of sailfish on all 5 Konas but could not jook a single one!

IBO was also out there and they got a sailfish and caught / released 20 odd game fish.

Flat weather again tomorrow and the boys will be out there again!

Just a quick report before collapsing…man, it´s looking good!!!

Flat calm seas (which changes tomorrow) and the water is just looking absolutely beautiful with lots of small YFT, skipjack and frigate bonito.

On Saturday Alex released a 400 Black on a lure and caught a bunch of game fish, including over a dozen YFT, some cuda, bonnies and skipjack.

Yesterday was the Russians last day and they come back with their eyes jumping out of their skulls.

They had two Black´s in the morning, both fish on lures and between 2-300 pounds. One fish through the hook and the other just peeled 50 yards but never hooked up.

In the afternoon they raised a massive fish on one of the short lures that followed for about 15 seconds and faded. Alex said it was one if not the biggest fish he has ever seen. I did remind him that he as seen some pretty big fish but he maintained that he had a very good look and this fish was huge and well over a 1000 pounds.

Again they got a bunch of game fish and also released a sailfish.

Today we started with the Bishop´s from the UK and we released a Black about 400 pounds on a YFT live bait – for Matt´s first ever billfish.

We had the fish totally under control right next to the boat but when I went to pick the camera the hooks come out and never got a pic.

The guys were very keen to get a shark as well so we live baited a bit shallow and got one about 180 lbs ….

…and then Mark had a beast of either a Zambezi or a tiger for almost 2 hours that chaffed through the 650 mono leader.
The power of this fish was incomprehensible, for an hour and a half we had the 80W on sunset with the pre set all the way. That is almost 70 pounds of drag on the corner and no one on the boat managed to take a singe inch of line from the spool after it broke….but this fish would just not bulge.

Anyway, a big waste of time if you ask – after being broken down for 2 hours with that kind of drag the guys are now agreeing with me!

A bit of a choppy north-easterly yesterday but water still looking great and although not as much bait around, still a lot of action out there.

Did not get a Marlin but still a whole lot of fun!

We saw two fish in the morning. A 300 pounder tailing down sea that had absolute no interest on our bait and about 15 minutes later we missed what looked like a similar size one.

We worked the Konas in the afternoon and for an hour and a half had absolutely non-stop action with lots of Yellowfin tuna, wahoo and dorado.

We also missed a blind strike that could have been a Marlin as it peeled 80 yards at warp speed and after inspecting the rig the leader was billfish chafed.

The last two hours were quieter and the water started to get a tint of green, which is no surprise with the NE that as been blowing last couple days. We did get this two wahoo just at the top end of II mile tough….

The Bishop´s wanted to have a rest day on Wenesday and we were blown out yesterday. However it was mind boggling to get out there and find such different conditions from the previous three weeks. The huge southerly as created a strong reverse current and it probably is the drop in pressure that have cause the fish to lockjaw!

The past 3 weeks there has been a stupid abundance of bait and game fish all over – today we never saw anything on the surface – absolutely dead.

But, it was not a bad day and we released 2 sailfish out of three. In the morning we pulled hooks on one right by the boat and then in the afternoon had a double header and tagged both. We also got a couple YFT that we live baited but got sharked!

Tomorrow is another day!!!

Happy new year sealiners, hope you hag a great holiday season and my best wishes for the year ahead…

It just got too much to report during the season…fishing 10 hours everyday, rigging and a low internet, just could not do it! But it ended up being a hell of a season, even if inconsistent at times when it was hot it was real hot and some we saw some beast fish and ended up catching three grander class fish for the season.

It does not get any better and that is way Bazaruto is simply World class when it comes to getting some Giant Black Marlin.

Over the next few days I will post a summary and pics for the season…

After the Bishop´s we had Aaron Atkins arriving on the 10th October on his third trip to Bazaruto and certainly his most unlucky – Aaron got a 900 earlier in the year and I guess he just used all his luck!

After two back-to-back low-pressure systems conditions have changed dramatically. Both, air and water temperature have dropped considerably and bait, which was plentiful has completely disappeared.

Overall we got some tuna, bonnies, king mackerel, dorado and two sailfish on the light tackle.

On the Marlin side we did raise 5 fish, three were very sluggish bites on the lures and we were unfortunate to loose two good size fish on bait in really unusual circumstances.

The first was a fish about 400 and after coming up on the drag the fish proceed to jump and run and then come off. Upon inspection the leader was chafed in the middle so the fish was just wrapped all along.

The second fish was 600 plus and got the bite on a YFT bait that had survived 3 hammerhead attacks in the previous hour. We were just south of the canyon when we got the bite and we had to feed a tad longer due to a bit off a overwind….the fish come up, I could see the circle in the corner but also the line wrapped around the fish and after a few nice jumps it popped.

Well, next year we get the grander Aaron, always a great pleasure fishing with you!

We started straight after with Nick and Matt from the States (they live in Maputo). I met them last July when they fished with me for two days and broke the Bazaruto Yellowfin tuna record with a fish of 72 kg (which was recently broken with a fish of 84 kg).

We had an absolute blast and they really are keen and enjoyable guys to fish with…already looking forward to next year!
