Chicken Liver Bait Presentation

I'm pretty sure a lot of you struggled with those mushy chicken livers that simply fly off the hook when you cast and resorted to other baits instead. Livers are good baits that are cheap and can be bought in any supermarket/butchery.

here's how to rig em up without them departing from your hook during the cast.

The elastic mesh netting can be obtained from a pharmacy.

It's used to put over bandage dressings to hold them in place. Ask for tubular elastic bandage retainer. it comes in a long tubular form.

I think this will work very nicely if you skin about four "day old" chicks, and make a "chicken bomb" with a big 12/0 circle hook through the top..?

Has anyone managed to purchase the tubular elastic bandage retainer? I've tried a few pharmacies including dischem and they look at me with a blank face. Help^^..

So i went to the pharmacy at a hospital. They want to charge me R70 / meter for the Tubular Elastic Bandage Retainer. Is this right? Or am i being ripped off?

thats right. this is the downfall of this method. the stuff is expensive. if push comes to shove, use stockings. but soak the stocking bait sack in liver blood because stocking netting has very tiny holes so it needs the extra flavour.

one meter can make about 8-10 baits. if you want my honest opinion just use a split open carp head or day old chicks. much better bait. I only use livers when nothing else is available.

it could probably make alot more baits than i mentioned. the stuff is very stretchy. all depends how you use it. a one meter roll can stretch out to more double its length.

Thanks for the reply - I was shocked when the pharmacist told me the price.

Nonetheless - thanks for sharing this technique.

Here is a method I use to make small baits 'bigger'. It works well for baits such as chicken liver, chicken hearts, chicken giblets, day old chicks etc.

If you are interested how I make it I can post more photo's to demonstrate it better.
