Myself and the two sons are all keen bass anglers in the Vaal area. How does it work with 3 anglers on the boat at club competion level.............is there a way to deal with this?

oh...now i understand...Hennie, im not sure about big comps, but our club has a social series, where they encourage us to be three on a boat, and the biggest fish for the day wins and then we have an angler of the year series where theres just two aloud on the boat and a 5 bag limit.
So ja, there is a way you can deal with this, join our club and all 3 of you can do a comp.

Hello Hennie

That has been a problem for a while and there have been several solutions to it in various clubs but at some stage or another it normally becomes a problem (normally when the boat with the extra angler starts winning).

What we have done in our club as Basslover describes is we split the year into two separate series.

Social fishing (club competitions) and Angler of the Year (tournament based)

In the social series we have approximate 4 or 5 events a year. In these events we support the idea of getting 3 people per boat and taking people along that doesn’t have a boat also to share costs. Basically it’s a light hearted competition for the day and we even share information as the day carries on. When you look very strictly at the rules of SABAA this is obviously not allowed. So to compensate around that we only allow one fish per boat on these days. It also has the added benefit that it reduces the impact on the environment.

In our Angler of the Year series (4 events per year) we do everything according to the book and there are only 1 or 2 anglers allowed per boat with 5 fish weighed per tournament. All four tournaments are combined and we determine the Club Angler of the year through that.

I also stay in Vaalpark and you are more than welcome to come have a chat with me. (Check your PM for my detail) Our next social club comp is on the 30[suP]th[/suP] of this month should you be interested.

Cheers

Bloody Hell Culprit !!!

This initiative in your club may be the closest thing to "Innovate, Educate, Conservate" I have heard of. Thumbs up to your club ::S

Thanks Revo

I appreciate the positve feedback. It is however getting a lot of raised eyebrows from the elder folks.

But the club is also now growing at a faster rate. And generally speaking people are happy with the idea.

Ahhh the blessed "elder folk" You see, you initiative helps non boat owners get out on the water and compete.... that is a problem for them as there is more competition which is not always welcome in the older circles.

You guys carry only one fish in a livewell for your outings with three people onboard and that gets a HUGE thumbs up from me. Remembering that these said "elder" folk could remove many spawning females off their nests in a comp during spawn time. If a chap weighs 5 fish, that's a minumum of 5 fish off a nest, but what if he culled 8 to 10 times in order to get his final biggest bag of 5. Unless he sits on one spot the whole day, he will, throughout the day, move up to 15 fish off their nests !!!

I say carry on, and don't worry about the negatives that people will throw at you. I think the structure of your club is great for novices, and serious fishermen alike. You have not alienated anyone and that's great.
