Fresh fish

Sarah,

I am unfortunately in the River state area, which sounds good for fishing but is really bad for expatriats. Unless you like living tied up in a small hut in the bush somewhere being eaten alive by mozzies while your ransome money is being negotiated.
The kidnap guys here like it is going out of fashion.

So no, I keep my nose clean and stay in areas where it is "safe (ish)"

One of the barge captains here has promised to take me out but they are targeting boats heavily at the moment so i will give that a skip for the time being.

I am planning on going from here (Nigeria) on a fishing trip to Angola with a colleague next year some time. Nothing concrete as in planning, still all talk at the moment.
I have gone on a Marlin fishing trip in Angola before out of Luanda, man what fun that was.... so many fish so little time.

Sarah,

Thanks for the picks.  I especially like the one where the chap shows off his fishing gear.  Crude but obviously effective :)

Attached is a map of the area I am based in.  Nigeria Delta, Rivers State, Onne.

I had a look on Google Earth. Where they went was North of Abudja, somewhere in the bush. I see there's lots of water all around Onne - no wonder they call it River State. There should be big fish around there.

It was actually very safe where they stayed but they gave them a body guard with a rifle - but that was to keep all the curious onlookers away, who had never seen white people before!

Anyway, hope you get the chance to go fishing.
