Gents,

I am at the cross road of replacing my boat (rubber, infanta) with a new version or investing in a jetski. Located in PTA , i am weighing all those issues that I think all that was in my position have done. I need some mentorship, and since I know there is no clear yes or no I will appreciate any comments or advise,

Pro ski
1. Boat need a crew, ski not,
2. More response in surf as I do most of my saltwater fishing with surf launch
3. Easier to tow

Cons
1. Ski fishing can be a lone affair?
2. Price - 80k more than boat
3. Some beaches do not allow skis
4. Limited amount of ski,s to launch at Vidal and Sordwana?
5. Do the family also enjoy the ski at the dam?

Going through this can I ask individuals that were at a similar point, in hindsite was it worth spending the extra money and are their any regrets buying a ski.

Any oints that I have not considered and may impact on my decision?

Need some mentorship......thanks gents

Like you said no clear yes or no, but my take is as follows;

I have a jet ski and use it for fishing (trolling) and for fun days at the dam with the family. See some points below;

Fishing (in the sea);

- Always hear it, and have experienced first hand; a boat you need a crew (friends).
- Jet ski, I can go alone and whenever I want (weather pemitting ofcourse), bonus: launching is easy (with my ski I can do it all alone).

Fun (sea and dam);

- Great (but hairy and scary, especially South Coast) to play in the waves.
- I take both my girls (9 & 11) on the dam (3 seater), & we also enjoy a day of pulling the kids on the tube and me on the ski's. This works for me as my wife, mom, dad, etc, do not love going out on the water (they happy to sit on the bank).

Think those are the main reasons, but perhaps if I had a lot of good mates, then it would be a boat. I emphasize GOOD mates, not ja broers. No fun riding around in your boat alone! (a jet ski you can play a bit)
Basically you have a lot more independence with a jet ski.

Plus it also helps having a bro in law with a boat at the coast, so sometimes we all go out together in the boat (best of both worlds), then play on the skis later in the waves.

If involving the family, a Jetski may be a little selfish. But on the other hand if your a bit of a loner, you can go when ever you want without any crew. Personally, I enjoy the time with my family or my friends. So I have a boat.

Hi Rasco, no you don't need all that stuff. If you really wanted basics you need the rod holders and a fish bag.

The safety equipment...wherever you are going to get your ski COF they will they will tell you, it's about R2500 worth of stuff.
