Anyone see the Hook, Line and Jeep show on Monday night? Eeds hooks into what John Crabb estimates at 150-200kg Dog Tooth, he fights it for 45 minutes... as it gets closer to the boat, it gets noshed by a shark, leaving only the head behind... On the boat, just the head was 3 ft long and 2x as wide as a man's chest... Shaizen... how BIG was the shark that chomped 3/4 of the Doggy with 1 bite?! ![]()

Hey Tony, for sure it was a BEEEEEEEEG Shark!!! Did you see how old the Doggie was, teeth were falling out etc. They still had awesome looking Sushi from the head section that remained.... I can't wait for the next episode - those guys have caught loads of fish, and methinks there is more to come. That Live-aboard looks like a mothership of note. note: (Please Lotto numbers, work in my favour - I need to do that trip)

At Baza in May, we had a big shark eat a 22-25Kg Couta, we watched as the shark SWOLLOWED the couta, from tail to head.....it was inhaled in one go. There are big things with sharp teeth out there.......

Sometimes I wish I had a TV.... I saw an add for that episode somewhere, and I know those exact places they fished in Seychelles, as its the area I fished in 2005... I tell you what, if I'd had Jigging and popping gear then, we would have slayed it... I have looked at trying to organise a trip to Seychelles, Jigging and Popping rather than flyfishing... got ALOT of guys who have contacted me about it from the US... RB - You'll need that Lotto ticket mate..... :-) So do I!!! :-) For the record guys, the World Record Dogtooth is 104.5 kilos, caught on a jig and a Tuna Max and Stella 20000....( I have the identical set up!! :-) ) Here is a pic of the fish.... How does this one compare to the fish in the TV show? ![]()

The fish on the show was DEFINITELY bigger. The gill plates on the retrieved head was at least to the back of the pectorals on this fish pictured.....so I would say at least a third bigger than this one. Tony? I am trying not to exaggerate this........ John Crabb said it was without a doubt the biggest he had ever seen.....

Yeah Nepps, I hear you brother. A few years ago I did some enquiring with Richard Schuman in Durbs to do a Seychelles trip on fly, but it was way out of my budget. Wildfly do trips - but again HUGE Bucks!!!!! I would hate to guess what it would cost to spend 2 weeks on a Live-aboard for a trip like these guys are doing. Out of my league unfortunately.....

RB - I did the liveaboard option, only afforded it due to two guess cancelling and so myself and the old man got a HUGE discount... and we did the first exploratory "Paydirt" trip with Flycastaways and were the first charter to do two atolls in one trip ( Cosmoledo and Farquhar, as well as fishing Assumption ).... I still belive it is worth the money, despite the costs... although we had a trip that has yet to be surpassed... between 10 anglers, we caught over 250 GT's in 7 days of fishing, all on fly, all sight casted, with the two biggest fish pushing the 42 kilo mark.... add thousands of other fish, a tally of over 40 species.... insane trip! Flycastaway are THE guys to talk to in this area. They are so far beyond anyone else its crazy... I would never look anywhere else, all other operations are a pale imitation of these guys. I know that is a VERY bold statement, but I'll stick to it any day of the week. There are none better, anywhere on the planet, and thats not only my opinion.... They are expensive, but for a reason... A day spent under Gerhard, Keith or Arno "The Milkman" guidance is akin to 15 years of angling.... these boys put you on fish.. Good reason to dream and buy lotto tickets for sure!!! That must have been one MONSTER Doggie!!!!

Yep Roy Boy... I'm going to try tape the show and then grab a still of that Fish (Head). Eeds lay down in the boat next to the head and it was at least half his length, which equates to 3ft. So 3ft to the gill plates!!! And it's width was twice his chest width... no exaggerating... As to what weight it was?? John Crabb is Springbok (Protea ![]()

I have recorded it on my PVR, but don't have a Dvd recorder connected up to write it to disc. For those who did not see this episode......it was indescribable. If I hadn't seen it myself, I would have doubted the integrity of the statement......(C'mon guys, Doggies don't get that big?).......well, they do. I was gobbsmacked to say the least.

I'll see what I can do... gotta catch it right somewhere... Nepps, the Seychelles liveaboard thingie... what sort of ammo is one looking at here. I know it's big, but it's got to be a trip of a lifetime, something worth saving up for... So in R terms....??? 20K, 30K, 50K or even more....?

Reefs - Excluding Tackle, I think the trips, the flyfishing ones, are starting at around $7500 or $8000 for a week ex-Mahe which means you still gotta fly to Mahe, and pay a minimum of 2 nights on Mahe at the beginning and end of trip.... Add your tackle, which you need to spend alot on... Because paying huge cash for the trip, then skimping on tackle is shooting yourself in the foot.... I spent about R 35000 on tackle for me and my old man... I scalped my bansk account, but don't regret it one bit! Problem is, there are not many operations that will allow you on to the flats with a Popping rod... it would be too easy.... you'd slaughter the GT's and they would then become weary to the fly anglers, and more difficult to target on fly... on our trip, we didn't use teaser sticks at all, and still nailed fish... now the teaser sticks seem to be mandatory weapons for the guides... I know a charter that is happening next year with a couple jiggers and poppers from the US, but they aren't hitting cosmo or farquhar I don't think... more around St.Joes and Alphonse... Charter alone in the 4000 Euro per person, not sure of other costs involved... This is onboard a 47'Cat.... which is small for a liveaboard.. the I.O.E we were on was 100' plus... great boat... I reckon you could say at least R 80 K for a simlilar trip to what the Jeep boys are doing... but thats a thumbsuck mate....

Got to be careful about copyright etc. but I have all of them recorded on my PVR so far. Not sure what the laws are regarding copying to DvD, but for personal "viewing" I would guess that it shouldn't be a problem. Anyone have a DvD writer in Pta, and who wants to come over to my place for a beer or 2 and a "Hook Line & Jeep" recording session on Saturday? Tony? Skrops? (I believe you faded last weekend......?)

I saw the program twice now. It was a big fish for sure. BUT... (yup here it comes, there's always one and today that's me) Having caught a tuna or 3, from doggies to bluefin I have to tell ya all it was maybe over a hundred but no where near 200kg. 200lbs maybe. Now I've handled plenty big tuna and helped process a few monster Big Eye and you get to judge very quickly what's what. Taking nothing away from Richard it was a great catch and very sad to lose it to the tax man. When Richard lies next to the head on the duck, you get a very good idea of size. Richard is my height (went to school with him) Also remember Doggies are not as fat and are more elongated than some of its cousins. The exiting thing is that it hit the jig no problems and was caught on an amazing set up. Just shows you what those rods can do.
