I will be fishing quite a steep embankment and sliding big baits for barbel into a river?

Please can someone give me some tips?

Also can I use a heavy normal sinker as the ambankment is quite steep so the bait should slide down easily or whould you guys disagree?

Any/All feedback will really help thanks to All

Must be honest never heard of anybody sliding in fresh water?
It will depend on the size of the bait and the distance.
if you are going to slide a whole carp or a carp head you will have problems as the weight will drag your sinker in.

IMO, if it is so deep, just cast the bait. You dont have to get so far in, noneed for it. The slide can just add more places where something can go wrong.

My oppinion on the subject.

I agree with Dorsal. Rather just cast the bait since its so deep. AND you won't have to worry about sinkers slipping or getting burned off

I've slide baits a good couple of times in fresh water before if the conditions was right and there has been success.

First of all just a couple of questions:
- How wide is the river you'll be fishing and where do you want your bait placement?
- Where does the river bed lie in relation with the width of the river from your bank?
- How steep is the drop off +/_?
- What size barbel do you want to target and will you find that size barbel in that stretch of water?
- Is the river slow/medium or fast flowing?

And what you will need:
- Non return slides
- Grapnel sinkers
- Long, strong casting rod
- Strong line
- Sea rod holder.

@ skuimkop  , will the grapnels not get stuck into structures and affect when fighting the fish

Nope it won't because of two reasons.
1) I only use the grapnel sinkers like in the pic below of which the grapnel 'arms' dislocate when you give it a good tuck so that it doesn't hook on structures.

2) The line I use between the ring stop (see pic) to stop the slide and the sinker is always weaker than the main and hook lines so when it does get stuck I can brake the line and then I have old Tekkie Bek one on one.
