slide a piece of heat shrink onto the hook and heat it up(acts as grip for the steel trace)

thread the steel trace through the eye and do a snell knot and come back from the bottem of the eye, if its the other way, circle hook wont function properly

put some heat shrink over the straight section to keep it in place(didn't have big enough heat shrink to cover the whole knot)

thread the steel trace through the squid, and push the squid tightly on the hook, it will prevent the knot for slipping as well as make a smoother surface for the hook to set

Sealiner
do a figure of eight knot and thread the extended section of the figure eight through the brass sleeve and clamp the sleeve to hold it fuss and trim the rest off(not very neat but that's one of the advantages of heat shrink, it can hide that)

Sealiner
apply the heat shrink over the knot, one at a time, wait for the heat shrink to cool down before applying the other one as it will start shrinking before you can thread it on properly

Oh yes, forgot to put this in the post, does squashing the barbs on a circle effect the catch rate? do you lose more fish?????

Absolutely not, once a circle is in the corner it ain't coming out easily even with a squashed barb, I've had to leave a few circle's in some fish due to it taking too long to get them out and having to quickly get the shark back safely into the water. By the way wade you interested in getting some 287lb carbon coated stainless steel wire? I'm ordering a 200m spool of the stuff and it works out to R300, same stuff Don and co use.

Geez! What you guys targetting with 440lb steel and those hooks!!! haha

BTW, i prefer the 19/0 over the 18/0 if you can get them. they almost the same size but have a wider gape.

Nice Wade!

The 400lb uncoated steel is not always about the size of the fish on the teeth! LoL The stainless steel trace does not kink and you can catch one fish after another without any damage to the steel. Catch a few Rags and you will understand the damage they do to 200lb coated fishmate.

Like to see the skirts on the traces...dont know why but they seem to get more pulls than un-skirted rigs? I like pink skirts! LoL
