thanks! ja I think if I had more experience with trout things may have turned out differently, but it was still a nice trip :)

I REALLY need to get a decent barbel fly setup, fighting butt and drag are mandatory!

Yeah, need something with a bit of backbone ;)
An 8/9 should be good and a fairly decent real as it seems you guys go quite often and for the big stuff..

When summer comes, try the popper/dropper method. The take is unreal!

Winter trout can be tricky sometimes but I'm pretty sure you were organized...luck of the draw I suppose.

I've heard that works well, I'll definitely give it a go! what sort of length between popper and dropper?
yeah but in leagues we wont really mess around with light tackle, calling rod to dip and basically lift them into the boat lol :fbash

will organize good fly setup for next Bloemhof trip, try get a 15kg+ on fly :p

I'd say, anywhere between a 1/2 meter to a meter.
I like 1/2 meter because casting a big @ss popper is hard enough and with excess baggage it can become earing material...lol
