Milnerton lagoon

I know a few weeks ago they closed the lagoon as tons of fish died do to a still unknown reason - Likely algae or some sort of spill.

Has anyone been down there since and is there any signs of fish?

And before all of this happened, did anyone actually have success in the lagoon or when in the mouth?

Does the lagoon hold any grunter?

During my stay in Cape Town (the last 2 years) the lagoon hasn't been a place for fishing, but rather collecting bait. Have thrown mullets there many times, never seen a grunter (not saying there aren't ANY though). Biggest fish I've seen in there was a  young leerie, but I wouldn't waste my time there unless you're happy with catching mullet etc

When I was a laaitjie - say 25 years ago I use to go and sit on the wooden bridge and catch mullet, streepie, elf etc. Dad pulled some sizer Garrick as well.

I was hoping to try some light tackle spinning / dropshotting.

25 years later it seems that's all I'll have of the place, childhood memories.

The system was apparently completely wiped out a few years ago (pollution I believe), but had really improved vastly until the latest disaster (whatever the cause). The were juvenile leeries, elf, stumpnose, steenbras etc in the lagoon. I'm not sure what's left now though unfortunately

Good luck, but I think, at the moment, all you'll catch is something that will require antibiotics...

i actually ended up at melkbos till around 21:30 and after not having to change my bait for the entire session i packed up, not even a klipvissie or sharkie. BLANK!! but was worth the try as you know with fishing you never know.
