Plundering our waters

I own a Liquor outlet which results in me talking to a lot of Anglers and I enjoy this most of the time. I have some regulars that let's say do not have permanent employment and spend most of their time fishing and drinking. I would be fine with this if it wasn't for the fact that they remove every single fish they catch from the waters. Irrespective of type or size they sell all the fish at the local "Location" (not sure if this is PC). Last Friday they off-loaded a bakkie full of fish for which they got R500, straight to the Bottle-store and back to the waters for the rest of the weekend. Some may think that this is ok but I find it sickening. I once went to Parys about 20 years ago for the weekend and caught a hell of a lot of fish, I over-filled the keepnet and when I released the fish some of them had died due to the over crowding, I was gutted and stopped using a keepnet. I know from some of my customers that even at "catch and release" venues fish are still taken away. I think that keepnets should not be allowed at such venues and people fined if they are found removing fish from these venues, it is in the best interest of the owners to enforce this rule, the water is their bread and butter.

I fully agree and it sickens me as well. I just think this whole keepnet thing will take years if ever to bring home to all anglers. I moved from keepnets to Carp sacks to keep my baits alive till I rig them so that the sent trail is better and it is unbelievable the difference the Carp sacks bring. So maybe for now we must push other anglers to go for the Carp sack option.
