After hearing that most of our club boats out on saterday, pulled blanks, we were determend to brake the ice.

A srong westerly was fore casted for sunday, picking up at mid day to 19knt.

The plan was to do an early morning trip and be at Mahogany Reef by tee time.

Me and Fatboy arrived at the workshop at 04 00, only to find that some of the crew were missing in action.

Well more space, more bait, and more fish for us then.

As we got to the save point, the tell-tale ripple on the water made BP change his game plan and we made a run for the best grounds, before that westerly churn the sea up.

First stop and we could not even make a drift over our favourate reef.

Well,... Thats why we have a peg, use it. The peg went in and we were catching every thing with couler and in good sizes.

By now the wind was already doing 17knt...

Fatboy was complaining and looked a bit uncomfortable

Up with the peg and of we went, into the wind.... the look on fatboy s face when he realised we not going back, well lets just say he was a bit dissapointed.

Next stop on a good showing and we were in again with some 2kg Roman and basterman in the same class.

We stuck around for an hour or so before we pulled the pegg and went into the wind even more....By now Fatboy was getting a bit more uncomfortable..

Another pegg in and the same fish. I taged along a bag of bait that I used on the surf the day before and saw that there was some sand mussel ( complements of Trophy ) still in the bag.

BP looked at me funny, wistle I tried to convince him that cob just loves sand mussel.

Down they went and sure as chocklates Im in..

5 downs and 5 cob ( I was the only one catching cob )

I only smiled when I saw the empy shells fly overboard as each of the other guys also seached for a sand mussel in my bag, invain.

The sea was big by now, uncomfortable, but still fishable.

We made a move again and go a bit deeper.

Now every one has exchanged the standing position for a place on the hatch .

I made a nise mix grill bait and went down,  BAM , and I am in with a black.

Bam BP also fas and Johan.

One turned out a goen and the other two will have to grow some more to make another angler happy in the future when his wife makes him some mock crayfish or salad.

Now the 6m super cat almost got on a plane when the anker rope went tight and Boom-Boom was not the bass of the radio. ( wich we dont have on the boat )

Fatboy told us that by this time his braai vleis would have been done already and him and wife would be sipping on a cabourne at home already.

Myself started to feel a bit unballanced, but for the sport we thought of teasing fatboy some more.

We had some samies and cooldrink and cleaned the boat a bit, wistle the water was now coming over the bow.

We pulled the pegg and I coiled the rope neatly. I sneaked a glimps at Fatboy and he looked happy to go home.

BP turned the boat and headed towards home, a huge following sea made for some skillfull skippering.

Fatboy s face lit up again and he actualy joined in our conversations for a change.

When the boat swung around again I whent to the bow and dropped the pegg, it was the last stop... (, Butt we did not let him know it.)

You should have seen the look on his face when he could not deside that if we were just joking or if we are realy fishing it out till last light.

A long thin strip of chocka on my hook ( the whole lenght of that candle ) and just a smell off pilchard.

Bp was in first, the line was making all sorts of funny noises, " SHARK " came the warning. I had a good look at first and then it dove, straight for the bricks.

Tail,... I shouted and BP managed to stop it in time, it flew away again, and the hand line he s fishing with was flying all over the place.

I grabbed it and gave him lots of slack, the fight was on.

Diving for the reefs and then making a run for it, the unmistakable sighns af a nise yellow tail.

When I lodged the gaff and pulled it onboard, Fatboy was speachless.

I grabed my rod and send my already rigged bait, into that ones brothres mouth.

Fish on, I shouted and looked at Fatboy as he shook his head.

Well lets just say, Mahogany Reef had to wait just a little longer.
