Hey everyone I know the specimen guys have lots of trouble whith barble taking their boilies in the summer eating all the feed and even the hookbaits!

I would like to know if anyone has made barble boilies and if it is even possible to throw out a hookbait and a lot of the homemade boilies whit a boilie pipe and make a feeding spot?Whith the boilies made whith proteins made whith a boilie gun and table?

If anyone has tried it please let me know and share some recipies!::S

Bollies will catch you a lot of fish. But your size will never be anything to brag about. Yoiu will catch fish between 5 and 10kg with the odd 15 kg coming out. The feeding spot will attract a lot of small barbel, this activity will scare off the big boys. But if you looking to be busy and catch a lot of fish than this will work very well.

Make a high protien bollie and use a flesh or blood base, this will put a nice attractive scent in the water. For a busy session with a lot of smallish fish go for it, will most certainly work.

Thanx I wouldn't care about catching a few smaller fish as long as I have a rod in whith a nice muddie head or a whole muddy on for that big snor the smaller cats helps me have patiense to confidently leave that bigger bait.

I usually use platannas to catch the smaller cats but they are hard to get so I would like to try this!

As Nobbles stated the boilies does indeed work for catfish, on a recent trip last year Oct at the Vaal we targeted carp with all sorts of boilies and landed a lot of barble on these.

We had better results when "vismeel" boilies were used and the size of the barble also went up a bit but nothing over 12kg with boilies, good fun however.

Looks like I got the pic right, the previous picture was that of the smaller barble which we caught a lot of, and then the attached picture here was sort of the biggest we got on the "vismeel" boilies.

For me it's not just about the size but every catch is memorable, we had a nice photo that I cant find now with a string of small strawberry boilies hanging from the barbels mouth that was placed in stywe lyne last year.

Cheers

If I was going to make boilies for cats it'd be fish meal. When I lived in Joburg my fishing was primarily for carp. The barble often became such a pest on Fishmeal boilies I'd stop using them.

Fish meal flour "worm soil" liver/blood/cod liver oil mixed into small boilies. use them for calling in the barbel, throw one out after you have casted..... Using too many brings in the 5kg & below's ..... You can pre make them & freeze.

Couldnt help to reply as I made some boilies last night and used Pilchards and Prawn catfood. Ganna give them a try tomorrow on a small lake close to home.
Managed to catch a 4.5kg last weekend on a bought Chilli and Hemp boilie...size doesnt always matter, its more about getting away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life!

Let us know how it went!:wfish

I think with all the rain we had on friday the cats turned out a bit sluggish on saturday. Despite this, I managed to land a FAT 4.7kg cat on a spinnerbait - man did it hit it hard! This was around 8h30.
After releasing the fish, I had to make for town to get a few supplies for an upcomming bbq, before the guests arrived. Whilst I was gone, my reeled screamed of and my mate who stayed behind had to leg it halfway around the lake, as he was still spinning, to make it to my specimen carp/cat setup rigged with my 24mm homemade Pilchards and Prawn boilies. When he arrived the fish was going but the reel was going at a snailspace and he managed to not set the hook...
The rest of the day were slow in cats showing but not biting...
Just before 18h00 my other rods which went in at 09h00 screamed off, but again we were spinning on the otherside of the lake, but luckily I had my "not so experienced" friend sitting under the gazebo with the ladies who managed to set the hook on a beautiful 8.05kg cat!
And that was about it really - 2 runs on my homemade boilies with one of 8.05kg coming out and another 4.7kg on spinnerbait.
