On Sunday our very good friends, the Du Triou family joined us and myself, Vian and Dominique made it our mission to get each of these “first timers” into their first fish respectively. We accomplished this mission and even though they were all smallish carp...yet another family has been “Hooked” on our lovely sport for life!!! Man that's lekker stuff! I'm taking my son (6) and his cousin (4) fishing up at the vaal river in a few days time... they are both getting the same little rods for christmas, and the cousin after seeing some pictures of edward landing some nice fish has been saying he wants to FISH. Can't wait to see the same kind of happy faces.

Great report, well done on all the catches, he trumps alot of guys' PB's at such a young age, including my own, well done to the lad. The Cat that took the whole carp, at what distance did you drop it? Last edited on Wed Dec 19th, 2012 12:11 pm by steelpulse007 |

Great report, great catch and awesome memories!!!!!!!!!!! I can to this day, 30 years later, remember the 1st fish I got that made me consider giving up. I was about 5 years old and it was a BIG skipjack caught off a boat in the Gonubie river. I don't remember the deep burn anymore but I still vividly remember the fish and my old man not allowing me to give up.

That shot was about 220m - I realised later with the fishfinder that it was at a depth of about 1.6m where the deeper water of 1.9m was actualy at the 120m mark...very shallow at the spot we fished. DId not investigate beyond 250m though... It was still tough fishing wrt the cats and they were quite slow in finding the juicy baits...

Ants this report was like an early Xmas present for me... I don't stop in the freshwater section much, but very glad I did for this... There is little in this world that makes me happier than seeing youngsters being put onto fish... the only thing better is seeing that happen in a father and son situation.... It reminds me so much of my late father,Pappa Nepps, and everything he taught me, and did for me, and how proud he was of me as an angler, and with any achievement in my angling.... You can be a very proud father Ants, and in turn Vian can be a very proud son to have a father who is so dedicated to him, and showing him the things in life that truly matter... the outdoors, respect for your quarry, and a love and respect for family and mother nature... I tip my hat to you sir!
