I will be looking at a combo early next year, anyone had/compared these two, is the Dsi worth the extra 2k? I can get away with the basics as I dont bottomfish often, mainly finding bait spots and reef,  but don't mind paying a bit more if its worth it?
I have heard that the Dsi is better for dams etc... and not too good at sea??
Anything from Garmin that I should look at?

The Dsi is "Down Scan" for structure scan, the Elite is a proper sounder. Two comepletely different technologies for different applications.

The Dsi is good for dams and shallow waters like the bay, not suitable for your fishing style.

If I was you I would go for the HDS instead of the elite and fit a good transducer, after all the transducer is the most important part of the sounder, its the "eyes" the unit is only a grahic disply of what the tranducer sees.

Personally, I don't think it's worth the extra cash. On a realllllllllly flat day with a swell not more that 2 feet with long periods it will be nice to have. Otherwise, the Elite 5 will find you structure and fish just fine.

Thanks for the input, HDS and the new Elite7 would be nice but I have to set a limit, it looks like it will be the Elite5 but I will look next year closer to the boat delivery time to see what's available??
To be honest if there was a mono combo unit the same spec but cheaper I would go for that, it's all I need.

You will be very happy with the Elite 5, its a great combo and probably the best in its price class.
