An epic weekend, big cats and a lot of fun

Ok, so I know this guy, Abre, who never fished before, He was present at a compo we fished but didnt fish himself. After the comp, the fishing bug got the better of him and he bought himself a rod and reel combo as he wanted to fish now, that was just before winter. So this week I spoke to the guy and asked if he didn`t want to go fish this weekend but he couldnt because he had other arrangements. The next day, he said he moved his plans so we are going fishing.
I tell you the guy was as excited as a girl going on her first date. So so with lots of excitement, the weekend was arranged.
It was D-day and he met me Satuarday 14:30 at my home so we left for the water. I first showed him all the basics, knots, bait, casting etc. etc. and then the lines went in. He got his first bite (remember, it is his very first time fishing) and I told him to strike and so he did but I completely forgot about the loose drag. I tell you, it was the biggest kraaines I ever saw on a coffee grinder.

Ok, so we got the kraaines loose and I helped him to get his line in the water again and also gave him a baitrunner so that he wont make the same mistake again. His line was in for about ten minutes and he got a bite again, this time we landed it and it was his first carp ever.

I also gave him a second rod and reel to fish with. I put the line out for him again and he landed the biggest carp of the weekend of 2.64kg`s, not a bad start.

We also took another guy with that never fished before but he was not really in to the thing so I let him fish with my rods and he landed his first yellow ever.

So I helped my brother to rig a muddy head also and he threw it. An hour later, this guy picked up his line and gave him a nice tussle.

By now, I lost another cat that simply ran into the snags without asking any questions so I put one of the two sircles Rudolph gave me on a carp head and threw it. 20 minutes later, another 12kg cat got stuck on my trace. This is where I got hooked on Team Catfish`s circles but lost both of them eventually due to cats and snags. These hooks simply didn`t miss a cat.

We got a few more cats that night till 12:00pm and then decided to retire to the tents as the wind picked ap heavily. I took my line out as I needed some rest and I knew as long as my line is in, there would be no sleeping. So the next morning we woke, caught a few more carp and decided to call the trip. The barbel we caught till 12:00pm . Ther was two more but they were about 4-5kg`s so we let them go without the group foto.

Good catches!:wfishWhere were they caught?Have you tried snelling the circle hooks works a bit better,it helps the hook turn into the mouth but remember when snelling it the line must come out towards the bend.

Well done to Abre, that's a great first trip. Good job putting him on the fish dorsal. Glad the super circles did the job for you, thanks for using them.

@ gvanheerden, I have really tried a lot of things, including snelling it and have found that it is not necesary for me. If I just give the cat a bit more time to run and then tighten when I am sure the fish is swimming directly away from me, thre is realy no way that the hook can mis. They are already off center so they turn any ways, that is why, you can see on the picture, the cat is hooked in the bottom of the mouth and not directly in the corner. I by no means say that you shouldn`t snel it, if it works for you, then there is nothing wrong with it. Also, I would snel it if the bait is big and my hook small, but if the hook is bigger, I just rig it up like that. Thanks for the tip anyways.
The dam is Kalkfontein dam aka Kraaipoort, great dam.
@ nobbles, thanks man. I must admit, I didnt realy have confidence in them as my first try with them didnt produce a pull even but now I despirately need more of them.

That offset is a great benefit of that hook and the double action. Makes the setting of a circle extremely easy. No worrys dorsal, always good to let a product prove itself to get the confidence them. If customs play ball than you will have some very soon.

I hold thumbs for the customs`s cooperation then. I realy want to test them more extensively as this weekend was just to get Abre into the thing and believe me, he would be back for some more.
