16ft Skicraft vs 16ft Trimcraft

Hey Guys

I'm shopping around for a good hull. I was going to check a 16ft skicraft out tomorrow, which I rekon I was going to buy.
The price was R6500 on a trailer (I have a spare trailer at home though). This one includes steering and control cables, It's also got buoyancy etc sorted (certificate expired). It was surveyed etc, before the guys stopped using it about a year ago(got another boat).

But then I saw trimcraft also 16ft, no trailer, probably no buoyancy, not see the condition of the deck in photos (will have to check it out. But this hull is R1200...

What do you think, stick with the skicraft?...or go with the trimcraft and do the steering, buoyancy, and trailer modifications from some of the money I would saved?

have you checked this one?

to confuse you a bit more, is 17ft. has nice gunwales. ski craft will have higher gunwale than trim craft if remember correct

Yes, I checked that one. The trouble with it is, the trailer is in a very bad condition, and the stringers are rotten, so the deck will need to be replaced. So I thought rather spend R2k more and not have to worry about replacing the deck or working on the trailer...So that was the plan, but then I found this:

and wondered if I should consider it. This is what I had mind set on: http://capetown-westerncape.gumtree.co.za/c-Boats-Watercraft-motorboats-jet-skis-16ft-skicraft-to-sell-R6500-swap-W0QQAdIdZ423457199

that ski craft looks easy and quick compared to the others. fit motor and off u go.

The Navarone is bigger, will cost more to get on water, but then bigger is a good hull, i'd take the ski craft from looking at the pics. 2 = 6K is nothing in on boat, use more fuel over a month or two.

Lenny ,

I have a 16ft Coast Craft hull with A boyancy certificate valid for another 7 years I am considering selling without a trailer. Attached is a picture of the boat .

There is absolutely nothing wrong with it and main reason is I have 3 boats already and a 4th on the way and need to start cleaning house a bit. if this may work send me a pm.

Lenny, the skicraft ZANDVLIET is a old Stuisbaai boat.

Have seen it in a few ads over the last couple of years.

Could there be something wrong with the boat?

Lenny,

Zandvliet , is not a Ski Craft it is a old 16,6ft AceCraft wooden kit boat , Ace Craft stopped making them in 1982 when they switched to glassfibre mouldings. These were good boats in their heyday but think their time has gone unless you want a collectors Item. I have seen that boat and it has been refurbished once or twice before.

If you are looking for a refurb project , the better quality boats are :
* AceCraft, SkiCraft, Viking, CoastCraft, Dorado, dolphin, Cape Craft, Rob Craft

As these boats all have good reputation , and are well built to start with

The ones one should not get into :

*Trimcraft,Naverone, Wahoo, Dick manten SeaStar

So what's wrong with the Naverone? the 17ft rides well?

Not much wrong with a Naverone , just think there are better projects to get involved in , refurbs are time consuming and expensive and if you are going to do it , do it with a good boat .

The Naverone on Gumtree has had its top cut and altered and best prognosis is to probably make a CC out of it.

yeh thought that Navarone one would make a good c/c, the 17ft had a much lower screen section than the 16ft so think that's original.

Agree on the time and expense and doing it with the right hull to start with.

@Bfc what's wrong with the trimcraft. I just got back from looking at one with a 2005 Yamaha 50. Boat has new deck new cof registered trailer. R39000. The hull is completely redone with new gel coat etc. I'm really keen to take this one for my inland set up.
