Red Bait. Fresh or Smelly

Hi Sealiners.

I have read in great books as strike that sometimes a smelly piece of red bait will give you better bite rate then the fresh bait. What is your call on this? I will be using red bait in struisbaai on occasion for the big muscle crackers that side.

Hoe vrotter hoe beter!

Yes, suppose it depends on the day. Guess I'll just stick to the fresh red bait for muscle crackers and red crab. It smells a lot bette. Thanks for the insight guys, much apreciated. Dankie :fswim

Have two buckets one with fresh and one like a soup. Put fresh on with cotton and then give it a swirl in the frot stuff.

You will soon see what the fish want. I always use a bit of fresh red bait as it is more solid on the hook.

Hi guys. Total newbie. Only got my 1st rod 3 weeks ago for my 51st birthday. Need lots of advice & info.

Can red bait be frozen?

Hi. So now you will be hooked. Yes, it can be frozen. Nothing to it realy. Just keep it away from the wife's meats and stuff or you will be in trouble. :welcomesea:

Freeze in a glass container and do not get fresh water close to it. If you are going to ripen it, get a 50ml bottle of Annisseed oil. Wash and scrub your hands in water with a few drops. Enjoy the :fishn

When I make Red Bait I freeze the lot in plastic honey jars(or similar smaller or bigger). When I go fishing I take one out and it will never go back into the freezer. In winter it will take days to get Vrot after taking the jar out of the freezer. 90 % of the fish that we catch is on the frozen red bait (fresh) that was removed from the freezer either the morning before a fishing session or the night before.

If the above mentioned red bait is fresh it is recommended for good catches.

When the above mentioned method is followed and the bait stands over for the day from Saterday to Monday an it goes "mature" it is allways used with great energy and believe.

I do not prefer fresh or vrot. I use Red Bait as is.

When I use Vrot red bait I wash my hands with JIK after fishing and before greeting my wife.

Happy Fising:SSS:clap12:clap12

Hooked line & sinker. Don't need any more trouble than normal with the wife. Need t accumulate as many noddy points as possible for future fishing trips.

Aniseed oil has a liquorice smell. In short it will take the vrot redbait smell from your hands. Put a few drops in a bucket of water and wash and scrub your hands in it. Do it a few times if needed. I have fished with really vrot redbait and it works like a bom and keeps the wife happy::S
