Hi Moss! You've come to the right place. What species will you be targetting?I only fish edibles and have same loomis rod as you and have just bought Daiwa Saltist 30H and can keep you posted once I've tried it which will probably be tomorrow if weather plays along.I've been using Daiwa X30SHV with my loomis and have been pleasantly surprised with this combo.I was fortunate to be offerred the opportunity by one of the members on this site to try this X30SHV reel prior to purchase and i suggest you try and do the same. You're welcome to try mine if you're out my way.I've been in that same predicament and with the help of Sealine members I've managed to make right choices.Cheers!

Hi Moss,

If you've got R2500 to spend, then I would suggest going for a Trinidad 30. A bit better than the Saltist, but not as good (or expensive) as the Saltiga.

It'll handle anything without hassel.

A Torium 30 will leave you with plenty of money left over from R2500 to buy other tackle or bait and the parts that matter are pretty much the same as a Trinidad. If you want to also catch sharks then leave the Saltist 30 and Grandwave 30 alone. You should be able to buy a Torium 30 and the smaller 20 for R2500 if you shop around or perhaps a Daiwa Sl30. Then you've got one reel for big stuff and one nice light one for edibles.

True, it will. However my reasoning in going for the Trini 30 was the drag strength and general quality, if you're looking for 1 reel to handle anything, that would be it for me (under the R3000 price range).

Again, down to personal preference.

Or you could buy a PENN 555gs. You can buy at least 2 with your R2500.00 . It also gives no problems and has more drag power than the grandwave. The only thing that is not perfect is the retrieval rate , its a bit slower than the saltist or grandwave.

looks will not determine the life of the reel.

I have had my grandwave for 3 years now and has been my only reel. no reason why it won't last me another 7 years, then when it makes 10 years, no reason why it won't make 30 years........eish, by then I will probably not be able to cast anymore.
