I'll be on the river most of the time hunting grunter and anyhting else that breaches so let me know if you're in the area so we can wet a line together...

Hierdie jaar wil ek 'n paar deurnag sessies in kry.Miskien....:wfish

Ek gaan gewoonlik Kleinbrak toe, maar nou gatvol vir dieselfde plek-my eerste keer in Stilbaai.

Groete

Jannie.

Ek verkies die Suidkaap-kwaliteit lewe.

So its the fishing withdrawal that gets blame now :) joking.

Good luck. You making me so green. Have a productive trip.

Fished that river once and had a ball of a time. Plenty smaller Grunter and only one sizer. Was in the peak season though. Would like to head back there some time soon.

Put in the time and you will be rewarded. Grunter fishing is a bit slower now that the water is colder so you don't get that many grunter as you would in summer... but I found that although you get less fish this time of the year, the size is much bigger!

On average, I sit for 4 hours maintaining 3 lines in the water. In summer a session like this delivers about 5 grunters between 35cm and 50cm, but in winter it means 1 or 2 grunters larger than 60cm...

Then I also get a couple more grunter on sun-up and/or sun-down if I can find a bank suitable for tailing during that particular moon phase's tide pattern. Hunting tailing grunter is hard and you don't get as much fish per unit time as I would with some of my other patterns, but it's my favourite way to hunt these fish!

Depends on the tide, the moonphase, amount of ink fish in the river, etc...

If you sit long enough with a mud prawn a grunter will pick you up anywhere in the river at any time, the take will just differ...

In deeper water (waist and deeper) the take will tend more towards a solid run. Loose drag is the key, count to 5 and tighten up the drag slowly until the resistense is right for the fight. There is also a chance you'll get picked up by a kob and/or a ray here...

Knee to waist water close to prawn banks is where I get most grunter. Make a long cast so they don't see you from the bait. Two tugs and a run, count to 5 and tighten drag slowly.

Shallower water is harder as they are more skittish here.
