Hi there. I'm heading to the above mentioned in june/july for a couple of days. Basically what where etc. What species could i target as well as where. I'll be shore diving and probably alone( not the best). Do i need to be on the lookout for sharks etc. Thanks in advance

Hello Visjag

There is a clip on youtube called "Spearfishing Musselcracker.wmw"

The area is known as Morris Point, I have never been there but after looking at that clip, I want to go there!

Hi Gents.

I made the clip at morris point. Its right at the end of the road that passes the harbour. If youre going to dive there just know that if the sea is big then the surge is massive and you might also get quite a current running depending on the swell direction. Shark wise. I have only seen raggies there. BUT there are GW's in the area. Not like Struisbaai, but they have fins and can go anywhere.

Fish wise. You might run into anything. I have shot yellow tail, elf, leervis, galjoen, musselcracker ect there. Certainly a good dive spot when conditions are right.

shot for the reply. But i guess if you stick to the shallows the gw's wont be a problem. have dived with raggies so not a problem there

Hi,

very late to this thread but its still helpful - can you describe conditions when the visibility/conditions will be ok/good?

Regards

Know nothing about morris point, but a word of warning re: GW's... Contrary to what has been posted here, GW's are no stranger to the shallows..I've seen many while standing on a rock next to the ocean and most of the time they are cruising up or down the coast against the side, their fins periodically touching the rocks on the side and I've had a few swim into the a gulley to check me out. The gulleys have been narrower and shallower than they were long and are the same gulleys I've jumped into to land fish many times, how the F they can turn on a dime and do donuts while keeping their big black eye focused on me in a gulley that is smaller than them, I don't know..but they do and can. I have filmed them..Just be on your lookout spearing in the S cape and don't even consider going to spear in plett haha..Seen 15 or more in a day there..

Thanks, yes good point. Especially even in half bad viz...

Anyone spearing in Stilbaai/Jongens next ten days?

Or have tips on a reef or ledge say >300m offshore? Is it even possible to get good viz in the stilbaai area?
