This is the most common Kabeljou/Cob or Geelbek Rig that we use in the Western Cape. You will see that you have 2 options of sonkers to use depending on the structure where you are casting. The foam that is under the hookbait helps to give more movement of the bait which will attract the fish more. You can use a skirt over the prepared bait which in some case works excellent. Maasbankers are also an excellent bait to use for geelbek with a strip of chokka underneath Attachment: Geelbek and Kabeljou copy.jpg (Downloaded 8083 times) Last edited on Wed Mar 7th, 2012 12:04 pm by Harrie |

For Steenbras, I use this rig. A long Leader with a short sinker line. You will be casting to the sides of sandbanks where the water flows and pushes you're bait around, the shorter sinker line prevents the hook line from tangling with the sinker line. I like the pyramid sinker as it will even make the risk of the hook line tangling with the sinker line less. We use fresh mud prawn or you can use white mussel which works great. This is the most common Galjoen rig that we use in the Western Cape. Very Effective. You can use big sinkers like a 9oz which will improve the rate of the fish hooking itself when they are hungry, but the most common sinker is a 4-5oz weight. I use this rig for Shad/Elf. I use a thick Leader line instead of a wired trace as the shad in some cases don't like the bait with a wire trace. A .75mm leader would be sufficient for Shad. There is a foam(or you can use a cork from last nights bottle of wine) that I tie on the leader line, approximately 15 - 20cm from the hook, because Shad eats more on teh surface and you will have more success, the more float you have. Hi Guys, I would like you guys to join my facebook fan page "Catfish Joe Fishing". My father and I started this a few years back. Some will know us, but if you don't please join this page and become part of the network. We will still share our info on Sealine. We are sharing all pictures, fishing stories etc on this wall and we use it for everyones info and to improve the everyday fishing with important info that we can share with each other. You will see that I have quite some interesting info on many different fish species including our fly fishing trips to the northern cape region and the feedback on it. Thanks and regards, Hardus Lategan
