Renosterkop Report

So this weekend was the first opportunity I've had to fish since leaving JBay in the second week of January... Since then I have moved to Pretoria and started a new job...Thought I'd let you all know what I've been up to ;)

My long time school friend Dean (aka zucas922) and I went to Renosterkop dam for some bass and hopefully blue kurper action. After a rainy start zucas opened our account with a modest bass

A while later I changed to a junebug finesse worm and things started happening.

These bass are very fit and gave very good accounts of themselves

and then I heard a big splash and turned to see a green slab belly flop into the water. zucas was VAS! The boat was turning as the fish pulled... After a very strong fight the fish was lipped and brought to the boat.. A good 6 1/2lb fish and the (last) fish of the day

Our time was unfortunately cut short due to technical difficulties. Next weekend its barbel ::S

cool enjoy it! only negative is the disgusting state of the slipway area, dead bass (whole) and guts flippin everywhere... really gross and those useless staff just sit on their fat asses looking at you instead of cleaning up

Nice report , but bear in mind it was prime time at that dam and we only got 4 ??!! , really now is when you can clearly see the damage that has been done , last year this time we caught 40! in a morning and finding kurper was easy , we didnt even see one blue .... So before you pack the car and set sail "over 120 kilometers" on a dangerous road full of cops looking for bribes and what not , ask your self if it is really worth it for the small amount of bass left , I'd rather go to bronkies or witbank ....on a well lit highway to be brutally honest

Cast for Cash Mpumalanga is Sunday and Gauteng is Saturday at Rust de Winter. Yes there will be a lot of people on the dam Saterday (pre-fish) and Sunday(comp).

Hey Guys.

I've got the opportunity to finally get out onto the water for the first time in ages and want to make the most of it. I was originally thinking of Renosterkop or Rust de Winter, but anything closer to JHB will be better (provided the fishing makes it worthwhile! like Bronkies or Witbank. So does anyone have any opinions? Dean (Zucas922) I noticed that you said it's not worth the travel... what would you recommend?

Currently Rhenosterkop is defenitly being over fished. The fish coming out is VERY skinny and also a bit scarce. I would rather try Bronkies.
