Hi noweeds, that specific carp was taken at Doordekraal/Bellwaterpark dam in Kenridge, but i mainly fish Sonstraal,it offers awesome sitefishing oppurtunities, sometimes u can site barbel too,Were not supposed to fish there tho,but i think theyre unreasonable so i just go anyway and no one has realy given me problems yet.

Hi Brushhog

Let me know if you want company next time- I stay in Durbanville Hills, so very close for me. Didn't even know those dams had fish in them.

Cheers

Was there 2 weeks ago. The trout were rising all over. Had seven hook- ups, but none landed. A bit of a bad day!

Anyway- trout was caught on White booby and red Woolly Bugger (actually anything red produced bites). Also had a few takes on a white and pink cat's whisker.

Good luck!

I mainly use float lines, because i use the line as a strike indicator if i can put it that way and i usually fish for them in water wich is from ankle to knee deep so no use for sinking lines.Well if u have bloodwormbanks then i suggest you use the carp fritz or carp bugger wich as you know is black and red,but when fishing Sonstraal dam(wich is open to the public again by the way, bottom dam only tho)i use whitedeaths, because of the great amounts of bread wich people dump in there for the ducks.

The Dam there by Doordekraal. I fished it quite often from the side with normal bait rigs.... ther are MONSTER carp in that dam. I know the structure underneath, my uncle lives on the hill there and i used to play there when it was just a vlei. It is VERY deep near the wall especially the part closest to the parking area. The SAPS divers do training there sometimes.

It used to be crystal clear, and you could stand in the water and watch carp moving around in schools from 7kg and upwards... if you stood still they would swim around you until u moved.

Anycase... I've watched a guy catch a 17kg carp there on a pineapple flavoured boilie, and i know there are bigger ones there. One picked me up on a little cheapie spinning outfit with a mielie pip on, headed for the main island and never stopped till my line was finished.

There are a hellova lot of bluegills that makes it difficult as they chomp a fly. I don't know flynames, but if you fish off the damwall on the rocky gravel bottom with a fast sinking line and one of those small red bloodwormy things "looks like a piece of wool" you must pick them up. Also saw a 2kg blue kurper landed off the main wall on a snail, but that was 5 years ago...
