Hi guys,
My wife and I launched the boat at about 06h30 and the fishing was very slow (or non-existent) until about 12h00.
It was tough as for some reason my trolling motor wasnt working and had to anchor in each spot that we wanted to fish!
We had anchored in the shade of one of the very few trees around the dam for lunch (that actually provides shade where you can stay on the boat). After our "picknic" i was casting in a hlf moon around the boat and missed two bites - small fish I guessed as they stuck on the tail of my 6 inch grub.
I then managed to land one - very small 300g-400g, and my wife aslo wanted to get in on the action! After a few casts she said: "Ek dink iets byt, maar is nie seker nie", so I told her to keep on doing exactly what she was doing up until then, if its a fish, thats what attracted it! Sure enough, 3 seconds later I just saw the rod tip jerking down and shouted: "KAP HOM! KAP HOM!!!" After about a 2 min fight, I netted a healthy bass of about 1.5kg! Man was she exited - and I havent heard the end of it yet!
For the rest of the day I landed another 500g-600g fish and missed another 4 enquiries (once again guessing that they were small!
We left at about 16h30 - what a great day and what beautitul weather!
I read in an older thread about Roodeplaat that the fishing has been very slow/bad. After this weekend, I have a theory as to why this is! There were probably 30 - 45 boats and a couple of jetskis on the water. The skiers, wakebaorders and tubers seem to stay in the middle of thye dam, but the "cruizers" and jetskiers who just drive in circles the whole day going into every bay and sometimes coming very close are the problem, most probably scaring the daylights out of the fish!
It is a beuatiful dam though and Im sure that fishing during the week/quiet days would yield much beter fishing!
