I rate Gingers better than black or white crackers.

You can buy gingers in Jacobs Rd at Bait Centre.

Grunter.queenies,Kingy`s and stumpies all love a live Ginger.

No special permit is needed to fish with them but you need a licience to net them.

Well i rate them no.1 in my book i find ginger's to attract a bite much faster than any other bait in the bay.I have also noticed that the bite by a grunter on gingers is much more harde and furious then it is on crackers..

I think its because the gingers are alot quicker then crackers and tend to dart away when under attack so to say.

With regard to getting gingers well from my research in durban there are only 2 or three licenced shrimpers and one of them is verry old Named Poo.Also they do not just give these licenses out they have to passed down or handed over to the next person I THINK THIS IS A DYING ART.. and we need to get alot more info with regards to this.I have tried to get some info regarding the status of the licenses but i was told that there were none available in natal. The other reason for this is that there is not much GINGERS left in the bay and according to KZN WILDLIFE it is because of the over population of the white cracker which leads me to the question WHY DID THEY RESTRICT THE PUMPING OF WHITE CRACKER ? If they did not do that then we would not be in this situation at this point.I dont think they did their home work when they decided to limit the pumping of crackers in the bay!!!!

As a result you now see that they no longer stop you fro pumping at the yaught mole any more so igues they  are now trying to get rid of it im not sure.Whether or not this works and helps with bringing back the GINGERS i dont know hopefully it does..

Little Hobo i have all the shrimpers numbers they are the ones who supply BAIT CENTER but its hard to get from them because of this. For now BAIT CENTER is the only place you can get GINGERS from unless you know these guys personaly.By the way shrimping is dam hard to do and if you watch those bully's its not playing bru.

Hope this helps !!!

I used to catch them, as a teen way back, on south pier.

We called them Jinglies, and were guaranteed to catch huge bronze bream at the front of south pier. We caught them inside the cavity of the pier by dropping lines down the vent holes!

No ginger shrimps are found on all the banks in durban bay it's just that they are not as full up as they used to be.There is so much speculation on why or ginger stocks are depreciating eg.white crackers they say are forcing the gingers away and depleteing the stocks also they say pollution no body can really say why they are disapearing so fast.

Lets hope they find a solution to this problem otherwise we may be faced with the same problem as bloodworms they have vanished almost to the point of no return.

You do here of bloodworm being pumped but the sizes of them you cant even put it onto a hook.So its useless to even consider using the bait.

Jingle`s and gingers are two different shrimp.

We used to wind the queenies and reef fish with jingle`s and often got a crayfish in the net in those days.

i used to get gingers from poo but sadly he no longer nets them any more cos of the restrictions in round bush. they are dissapearing in a flash so i dont think we should make them dissappear any faster even though they the best bait to use in the harbour!!!
