Hay all,

After a long and much anticipated wait, my bass rig finally came in the post from Knysna!! I asked my dad to post it to me so I could go hunting for them Little fishies!!

I had a look in my Durban Map Book, and found some body's of water, so this weekend I'm going to try and find some more dams that holds the much searched for Bass...... ^^..
I'll keep you guys up to date on my findings, for i hear Durban is "frot" with good bass.

I really think this is the only way we gonna find the right fishing spots, so join me and try to do the same in your area so we can build our database on know bass spots.

Cheers All and happy hunting

Hey boet, check the freshwater section, you'll find another section where its says, venues etc.  that was stared by loams and myself with the Burning fast response for creating the section by Our Most Honourable EMPEROR.

Post the info of the places you find there so that we can centralise it into one fat database kinda of thingy.

Hey phr33dumb

Def a brill idea, I'm currently planning the same for the weekend coming, just remember to get info into the d-base of all the hunting grounds/spots/venues that you've already fished as well, even your old known one's.

Let's get it in there, so we all have a better chance of breaking records one-day.

I must just get the exact details of about four venue's that I have fished before before posting them in the Freswater venue section.

Can you believe it?

the day i finish work early, its raining cats and dogs!!!!
now i have to sit and watch TV, hopefully they have bass fishing on ESPN......lol

i heard a funny story today, a dude that has lgf's in his swimming pool at home. he put structure and a whole lot of stuff in and some lgf's. now if the weather is bad or his wife moans that he is never at home, he can still catch some good old bass..:fishn

Oh yes, another thing..... on Saturday mornings i think its between 7 and 9 or 9 and 11, there is a bass program on ESPN. i get a lot of tips and tricks from those okes. so if you married men aren't allowed to go out and wet your lures, you could watch some pro. Yankee do it and maybe even learn a thing or 2.

happy hunting

Hey all,

So i got of my lazy ass yesterday and went searching for some dams to go fish in, at the end i decided on inanda dam. went there in the afternoon from about 3 to 6.
didn't catch a thing!
ok but i was only fishing with my top water lures, i had a couple of small bites and a baby bass that came off my hook. not very eventful......

Ah well, in all fairness it was fun getting out there again and trying to catch some of those green beauties.

Whoop whoop.... almost easter weekend!!! gonna get to use my new rod for the first time and gonna fish like there is no tomorrow!!! only 3 more sleeps till i fly to jhb...

happy hunting dudes

Guys

All I can say is Wwwwwhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyy did Loams have to mention that it's called fishing and not catching, Why oh why????

Went fishing and not Catching this past Sat, and a complete fishing experience it was, NO CATCHING.

Loams, Boet, have I got some sad news for you, sorry to be the bearer of this but I owe it to the forum readers/members.

Went to Presidents dam (the park side) on Sat.  What can I say other than, totally, uterly disgusting, dirty, filthy siff sick, you should get the idea by now.  There is garbage all over the place, even in the water, it is so bad that one of my topwater lures got stuck in a reedbush about 5 meters into the water, snapped off, and is still there as there was NO way that I was going to get into that water, really not worth while to go, maybe other parts are cleaner but the park side, really bad.

The fishing almost resulted in catching as my Bud hooked into a very small LGF, but lost it as he thought he got stuck in some of the siltgrass and didn't set the hook properly.

We left at about 11 and decided to go to the Quarry in Edenvale as we still had alot of hours left before the better halves would expect us back.

Now, this place is clean, really very clean, and the Owner, a Guy by the name of RON is a real friendly bloke and gave us a warm welcome, but he was the only one, them fishies didn't even bother.  Well, anyway we left the place at about 16:00 without having one single bite between the two of us and we really tried everything, I mean EVERYTHING from all the lures, types, sizes, flavours, colours to the various rigs and techniques.

Ron also mentioned that there are Bass, Carp and Barbel in the Quarry and that they are fencing the place off, and the idea is to have Only 100 fishermen/anglers that will be paying R200 per month which then will be allowed to come hunt at any time, these (exclusive members, only 100) will be issued with a key for the gates.  I unfortunately forgot his number in the car this morning but will post it later.

So sorry Guys, NO PICS of them LGF's, but we'll keep trying to change Fishing to Catching.

Very sad to hear about the state of Murray park... So I'll scratch it off my list for Easter Weekend... At this stage it looks like we'll do Hengelaars Vriend or BronkhorstSpruit Dam over Easter weekend.

I went to the hengelaarsvriend website and it looks really awesome. It's also run by Afrikaans boere people, and because I am one, I know they don't take sh@t!! If you make a noise, you are out boetie!! It also looks really clean!

Loams

Hengelaarsvriend, is like you say, only thing is Bass in Roodeplaat, Eish Man, and even the fish Roodeplaat is best known for being Carp, well let me put it to you this way, I started fishing there as a papgooier some 14 years ago and it was my favorite dam, having said that, it was also the dam where I "blanked" the most.  Tempramental, one day you'll bust a good sized Carp and the next day you'll look at the birds.

I also never ever caught a Bass in those them waters.  My suggestion would be to rahther consider Bronkhorstspruit as your venue, Roodeplaat also as of late still have huge problems with the healthy hyacinth population.

Anyhow, Happy Hunting those LGF's

Wouldn't Hyacinth be a Bass attractant??

I mean, I know it is an issue, but Bass like cover, invasive plants or not? I imagine you should get through it with a drop shot rig?

Loams

Yes, you're right, but there have to be Bass to make use of the cover, now I'm not saying that there's absolutely no bass in Roodeplaat, however, from what I've heard from the "Pro's" is that there are very few Bass in Roodepllat and they stick to the Northern end (Dam wall and the Old Aventura side) of the Dam which is opposite and furthest to left from Hengelaarsvriend.

Look all I'm saying is that if you're going LGF hunting then rather consider Bronkhorstspruit, if you're toing to hunt Carp, then Hengelaarsvriend is a good venue but Bronkhorstspruit is even in this case better, cathing fish wise.

There's also another place that you might give a glance and it's called The Bass Pond, has nice cabins, is only 5 k's outside of Witbank and most imoprtantly its got BASS, it is also reasonably close to the Witbank Dam itself.

Look in the SA BASS for their add, I haven't been there but it seems like a great family outing.

Anyhow Happy Hunting those LGF's

Isn't the Bass pond the one near vereeniging that is actually a diving venue, and with fishing only during the week, as during weekends all the divers go there?

Loams

No that one is called BASS Lake and the diving adventure section has a webpage, just can't remember what it is, Google's your friend here.

No the place I'm reffering to is called The Bass Pond, If you need details, and don't have one of the latest copies of the SA BASS mag, just shout and I'll scan the add and post it here.

Oh goodie

Which magazine was that? Or was it online??

Did they catch from the bank or from a boat?

Loams

It was the ESA mag, almost right at the back, read whilst I was waiting to pay for some trick worms and Gary's Kreatures, didn't buy the mag as it only had a few pages on Green Thangs, but it reckons Witbank is "ON"

If you can't get the mag where you stay I'll go get it and post the article here as a scanned image or retyped post.

Just let me know?
