having a fire extinguisher is like having a gun with no training ,if you dont know how to use it its no good to anyone,I was a fireman for many years and two of the most common mistakes were in the case of a engine fire in a car,is lifting up the bonnet,chaps,this will allow extra oxygen and the fire will flare up,just pop the bonnet and stick the fire extinguisher hose into the gap,same applies with a outboard motor,second mistake is discharging a fire extinguisher at the flames ,always aim for the source of the fire,imo part of a skippers training should involve a bit of fire fighting training
