A cold front and lots of rain prior to the bonanza has made some very difficult fishing.

Hope there are some big fish yet to come out. Here is one of my two deepwater ghost klopped barbel that I got in the last hour of todays fishing water 22m deep...

So guess the weight? ;)

My guess would be 12kg. We had cold weather the whole week. I've been on the river all day from voëltjie eiland up to 20km upstream and got only 2 8kg's:fbash

4 kg, that close to the camera :-D

Otherwise I'd say about 10kg's ;-)

Looks like the no wind is a bit in favour there.

Sorry about the cold front, if it was delayed to after the weekend you probably would have gotten plenty !

10.5 and 11kgs respectively.

Fishing was extremely difficult but quite a bit of fun none the less. The winning fish all came out on bait.

I wish we had had better condtions and that the fishing was better. I spent so much time calling with the roepstok that as I sit here today my armpits are black and blue from the calling rod.

Just about every time I called there were fish that responded - one see's bubbles come up in the close vicinity of the rod tip but the fish were very non committal.

I also noticed that if I switched the fish finders off and did not put the trolling motor in the water the barbel would bite more readily - maybe they do not like being "pinged".

Here are my 2 racing snakes at the weighin.

22m diep?

My skoonsus is beloon met n 16.96 kg .

Interesting comment - carp did particularly well in this year Spar Bloemhofdam Bonanza. Barbel smaller than previous years. Maybe the carp is flooded into the dam from the Vaal River.

PM my as jy dit persoonlik wil hê.
