Jou voorbeeldpunte is net 'n voorbeeld.

Bernard - to you and your team and all the National bodies (SAPS, First aid etc) Thank you for a well put together comp it is always such a privilege attending a well run COMP - little does anyone realize what goes into putting such an event together. A big hats off to you all...

Sadly it is a pity to hear that the event was marred by an accident involving alcohol - wish people could be a little more responsible when attending such events it is not only them but the innocent ones that also get hurt....

Thanks again

Hi Guys,

I too did the Bloemhof this year - my first.

Although it was extremely cold on the boat (slept on the water) I found it to be great fun.

I understand that arranging such a competition entails a lot. I do however have one concern:

Bernard : my mate and myself caught barbel and carp off the boat (at night).

Using exactly the same scale as was used at North West, the fish weighed around 1.5kg LESS with our scale than the next day using the official scale.

Now neither of us caught anything that came close to qualifying for any prizes - so this is not a question of sour grapes.

My concern is this - using my mates' brand new scale of exactly the same brand (I think it was a prince - costs around R250.00) we registered a difference that does not make sense. Fish lose weight over night - they don't gain it (and no, we did not accidently "lose" some sinkers down their gullets!)If there was such a difference between our scales, what are the chances that there could have been a difference between the official scales at the different sides?

When one considers that the differences between the top 10 carp was not that much, something like this could cause a lot of red faces...

With a competition as huge as this, would it not be better to consider a more expensive (???) option of platform scales with calibration certificates? That way we can ensure that both scales used either side are calibrated to read exactly the same.

I'm not out to cause trouble, neither do I want to sound like a whiner - I just think that a competition with a prize value of R1.5 mill justifies a better system.

Just a thought. Either way I will definately be back next year to hook that big one that got away and cost me R100 000 :) :kaykak

Other than that, hats off to you guys, thanks for a great weekend!!!

@ Baasvark
