I go fishing at Blakes quite regularly and it does blow hot and cold.

After reports of some litie catching 18 geelbek in one evening (and the little sh!t took all of them) the beach was a-wash with rods and reels, "every one casting hook and sinker by the dozen...cast one line and killed my cousin..."

Since that evening (three months ago today) I have caught geelbek, elf, baitfish and some sizable flatfish there. It must be said that I have never caught from the deeper reefs, but will give it a bash sooner rather than later.

So any how, here is a place to log all the in/activity at Blakes and surounding areas in order to determine whether this spot is hot or not.

Well, if nothing else, it was a valiant effort... and I am not talking about the 1974 model made by some car manufacturer.

Two rods in the water, two kilograms of bait gone and one "skaamhaai" landed. Once it hit land it forcefully curled up to indicate the amount of fish which will be caught that evening... Doughnuts, naddy, zip, lutu, bogger-all...

29/03/2011: Blakes infront of the trellidor.

Light off shore wind - West - North - West. Warm water. Misty (not the stripper). Low tide. Catching Right of "that rock".

Sardine

16:30 - 20:30

Looking for Flatfish / Cob / Elf

Enjoying the "flavour" of this thread, keep it going. Will support it ..... if I ever get to Blakes again. Caught a few Leeries there this summer with the emphasis on "a few".

All help appreciated... Bring your pump, hey...

I've been throwing the Loomis 80 in the hole r-i-i-i-g-g-g-h-h-t at the back on the left, the Loomis 49 Ri-i-g-g-h-t in the middle and the Poisidon right in the front. Add to this drop shoting about 30 meters in either direction...

To be fair, I did manage that Hu-u-u-u-u-g-e ray one Tuesday and a couple of small elfies, but the illusive garrick, geelbek and kob... it is those manne I wanna get...

I have gotten a couple of shad at Blakes. You will see a rock sticking out between the "jetty" and the rocks on the left. I get most shad between this rock and the "jetty", so the left hand side.

Please remember that the minimum size a shad must be is 300mm. This is using the fork method of measuring which means you measure from the fish-mouth to the tip of the tail in a straight line.

Catch restrictions, minimum sizes and bag limits must be maintained at all times. And please remember...

...if you not gonna eat it, please put it back...something else will...

Looks like Friday from 12:00 to 21:00 may be the best time to try Blakes and closeby Melkbaai before the next bout of bad weather hits us.

I will be going down to Blakes at 12:00 / 13:00 to see if I can't get some-thing... Maybe try Melkbaai later for some baardman.

So... guess who got a shad today... doeda-doeda...40cm today doeda-all-the way...

Yes, rather strange to imagine but true! One 40cm shad and a gullyshark. Also coming out at the same time: a 65cm white steenie, 4 Stumpies on the reef and a blacktail.
Take that, Blankman!!!

14/06/11

Dropping tide approaching low

Fishing from 15:00 to 19:15

Warm water with two cloud brakes, cold as hell when you wearing a rash vest and shorts.

Wind light North west.

Full moon
