Help with my weights!!!

Hi Guys,

I found an awesome spot off the beach in Durban ( keeping it sectret) which was like a feeding frenzy on Saturday night. All was going fine until i realised that Okuma line is not the best. I have since changed to Maxima.

Anyway, the question is this: How does someone tie a simple pyramid or any other weight on so that incase it gets hooked in rocks will break off with out losing a prized catch?

Nothing more frustrating. If someone could please post a pic on how to do this, it will be appreciated.

Thanks and tight lines!!:wfish

If u are using maxima line, just tie any other line with just just lower diameter on for your sinker line. using the same knots.

or

Use a figure of 8 for your hook and mainline knots, then use a blood knot for your sinker line. check your sinker line after every retrieve though

Thinner line as sinker line and make two or three normal overhand knots in the sinker lins. It will break on one of these knots

Hi, Does that mean that if you tie a normal knot in the line it makes the line so much weaker?

Also, if i am using thinner line for the weight, i would then have to put the weight on a swivel?

Will give it a try!!

Thank you

Hi Blue Rush

The theory is that when you make a simple overhand knot in the sinker line it loses half it's breaking strength and another knot would make it even weaker.

When casting use a clip-on sinker with a slightly shorter hook trace so that the weight of your sinker is taken up on your stronger hook line and not on the weaker sinker line. This should not only give you better distance but also easier casting.

Should your sinker then get stuck it should break on the knot in the sinker line leaving you free to land your catch.
