They are lovely fish to see in the water.

Yeah. I'm still aiming for a tail this season! Hopefully soon.
The water must be cleaning up your side. Water temp off Kommetjie has dropped from 17 deg to 11 deg in just over 24 hours...

Brrrr

in a area that there are almost none, the few that are there should be left so that they can breed.

Agreed. I must also admit that I haven't seem many of them while spearfishing shallower reefs. I have however seen them in numbers while scuba diving deeper reefs.

Can you please provide a bit more info as to the population density and distribution of the Cape Knifejaw in False Bay?

I think I've shot more knifejaws (big ones too) than hotties in Falsebay. I really haven't gotten the impression that their numbers are low. Sized roman on the other hand are scarce!

I'd like to know more about fish numbers too. If certain fish are low in numbers then I'd rather not hunt them even if it is legal.

There was a test done on fish and their mercury content quite recently.Red Romans in False Bay particularly showed by far the highest volumes, not sure I'd want to be eating them :fbash

Just a pic or 2 of the past 2 weekends. Mouille point was ok yesterday. viz wasn't amazing but still a good 3 or 4 meters.
Shifty got a pretty big hottie. And my pic is a jutjaw from last weekend. We been pretty lucky on this side for past few weeks actually.
