make a double figure of 8 knot.keep it open.then tie the steel on exactly like you did to the swiwel, and pull the figure of 8 tight...you want this know to be small.so once finished take the tag end of the nylon(before cutting it off) and pull very tight on it.Will cause your knot to stretch thinnner and not all in small big knot.the steel you can crimp into a longer thinner piece.

Hiya Guys,

Simple overhand knot in the steel, feed the mono through the loop of the overhand knot and tie a clinch or Fig8 in the mono over the steel.

Pull the overhand in the steel semi tight and then pull the mono knot semi tight with loads or gob!

Pull both ends tight and done.

Is this piece of steel necessary when using a 1.2mm wind-on leader?

Hiya Mangi,

I don't use steel on 1.3mm wind-on leaders upwards...never lost a fish as a result of this?

I thought this thread was about making a 'Bite Trace' LoL!

Sweet. Never liked the idea of another knot in the trace.  Just creates another weakpoint.

But, as this is going to be my first real year in shark hunting, what do I know.
