Rods for casting long range

How accurate is the line mate? I bought one and want to see how far I can cast as well at what distance I can get least 90% accuracy. There is no point for me to cast 100+mts if I cant kolgooi, I'll rather hit the 80 -90mts constantly.

The line mate is accurate in measuring the line that left the reel in the cast but not always accurate in measuring the actual distance of the cast.

It will give a really good indication but the loop in or on the water is seldom removed before the retrieve.

You will soon know what distance you can comfortably cast to - consistently.

I agree with you that accuracy at 90m is better than haphazard casting at range but in this discussion we're talking extremes.

My own philosophy, if the fish are at 150m then if I have the "not ideal bait" at 150 and you have the perfect bait at 80m. I'm going to catch more than you..........it seems simplistic and in fact it is simplistic.........the fish won't be at 80m for whatever reason but if my "Not Ideal" bait is amongst the fish I will get the bite.

Took version 2 of the Garrick 3pce 14' I built for Carlos Moran and after the league final at Moorddrift this weekend tried to break it with a 4oz weight and 10lbs braid (65lbs leader) first cast measured 217m, tried till I was blue in the face to break the tip (we did break one a month back so I wanted to make sure this one is fine)

Would cast M1.5 with big bol a mile and has the convenience of 3 piece

T53 Base, T53/24 midsection, T24 tip so it loads easy and it can throw a bait a mile. I like and is a local answer to my skycasters - Price with generic build would be around R1850 and with full fuji build R2300

10' Rods should never be viewed as distance casting rods.

I mean you have the T53 that casts from 80-180m so the 10' rod should cover the 20-100m (20m overlap)

The 10' rod is for accurate and speed fishing and normally for small fish. to this end it should have a reasonably soft tip but be able to cast a bol up 100m

Remember if the rod is to short and you cast it a long way you lose lift on the fish and setting the hook properly becomes very difficult.

Good rods with good value here are the Blue Marlin Electra, Carp Cruncher (Graphite) and quite a few others and they're in the R350-500 class

So Jason Stander and I made up his T53 G2 1-2 and he's been doing 100-200 casts a day for the last 2 weeks in preparation for the SA's in December

This was the result of a cast with a M1 at Harties on Sunday, 146m Line was 0.16mm C+ Hypercast

I am thinking of buying the Sensation Rockets, 12'. What are your opinions about them. Any input would be appreciated.

Probably best valuer for money option but Blue Marlin Fireburst isd top notch and sensation DC coming out next week will be the benchmark 10, 12 and 13'

Hi Botty
My penmaat het nuwe jl customs met twee punte gekoop very nice. Net my 5c moelike blerrie besluite.

Baie beslis 'n moeilike besluit. Gooi baie lekker, maar jy weet mos as 'n man jeuk.

2 x Fireburst 12' will cost you R3700 with T24 and T53 tip or R3700 G2 13'new Sensation DC Fot around R3000

As for the) issue, yes balancing the cast to the rod action is KEy but guide wrap is easily cured with Lo-Rider concept guides
