Hi all. Aqua Via is close to Villiers, but is not the caravan park at Villiers. From Jhb/Pta take the N3 to Durbs. You eventually get to the Villiers Offramp. Take the off ramp and turn right. You then will pass the road that goes to Villiers town to your left, and about 2-4 km's you'll get a gravel road to the left to Bothaskraal, and there is a small signpost for Aqua Via (turn off about 3 km's or so from offramp). Once on the gravel there is another sign for Aqua to your right. The gravel road in total can't be more than 7 km's or so. The camp is very basic, ablutions not too good, but flush toilets and wash basins, but no hot water. The water there is drinkable. There is a small shop with a few basics, grounbait and floaties, and wood. If one is desperate, Villiers is only about 20 minutes drive away. It is a 'rough it' place so to say, but the fishing is beaut.

I have found that the best fishing is from September til March, I've hardly ever left there without a descent catch. I still want to master the winter fishing there which I intend on doing this year.

You can contact either Willem or Erika 058 8210131 or 082 816 8491. Gate times are from 7am until 7 or 8 pm.

This is my pb Mudfish, it felt like a brute of a carp when I fought it, took me over 10 minutes to land it, weighed just under 3 kg's.

Hi Shuraj. I've been going to Aqua for at least five years and have never had any problems with safety. I could be mistaken but entrance is about R35 pp. It could have changed by now. I was there two months ago.

If anyone could possibly help me, I've struggled for ages to find a good spot for Bream/Kurper as my wife really enjoys Bream fishing. I have tried Roodeplaat, Rust de Winter, Loskop and more, but just have had no luck. I've heard of Arabie Dam which I want to try, but have heard that the safety factor is dodgy. Another favourite spot of mine is Jozini for Tigers and Bream, but is a bit far for a weekend. If any one has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm getting a fishing ski, mostly for saltwater fishing, but have seen that freshwater ski fishing is also becoming a big thing and I want to get involved. Does anyone know which Rivers/Dams allow fishing skis at all.

Thanks Sealiners.

N3 East, past Heidelburg and about 55km on you'll see the Vaal river and offramp to Villiers

Take the off ramp drive into town and follow the signs to Aqua Via

27° 1'19.93"S 28°36'6.46"E is around the area I last fished in Villiers

There's often catfish or bream socials posted in the Kayak section

Would never try the ski thing in Arabie

Kurper are generally a boating fish and the top dams are Arabie, Loskop and Renosterkop.  Getting to where they hold, from the bank would mean snagging every cast you don't get a fish

They generally like 2-4m deep water in and around trees (the more trees the better) so for consistant Tilapia catch it'll be better fishing off of a boat
