Hooking Platties

I've used some of the methods here on Sea Line to hook my platties - i.e Thro' the mouth behind the eye's , 1 hook thro' the mouth and the sliding hook thr'o the back leg etc..etc..

I'm no fan of the double hook method 'cos once the first hook is inserted the plattie goes all wriggly and inserting the second hook makes it worse...I prefer the big circle thro the mouth exiting behind the eyes ..

BUT is there no better way to hoomk the dude so that he stay's alive longer ? ok thro' nthe leg is a good option but what about something to the efefct of a hair rig ?? so the hook protrudes / is completely visible ??

not to upset the frog huggers but if the platties are big enough the back leg is still imo  the best option ive caught 3 cats on one plattie before they stay alive for a long time

Morning gents!

I love using two  R5.00 coin sized platties, hooked trough the heads with a small circle hook, BACK TO BACK , on a float set 2 metres deep... the 2 platties " fighting/swimming " against each other is VERY ENTICING, especially at night!

Regards

Herman

I do the strap method (hair rig knotted to the legs):knot the hook line with a hook to the left front leg and knot another  hook line and hook to the right back leg(that way the frog stays live and looks more natural)

i hook them through the butt cheaks where the legs come together had good results that way also catching a couple of cats on the same platties

first thing i do right, i throw the frog against a tree or a rock to stun it so i dont end up with a circle in my hand, then i pull the hook through the head between the eyes from the bottom up, the trough the fat on the back leg, this way when it wakes up its doesnt dig or swim, it just slat a circle action that drives the whiskers cra cra cra crazy

Sometimes the plattie will also try and bury itself in the mud or silt on the bottom.A mate of mine "modifies" the knee-joints on the rear legs. That way they still try and swim, causing commotion in the water, but doesnt go anywhere in a hurry.

I dont have the heart (or lack of) to do that.

I try to be humane with platties by using the trace that I use that way I can also keep them and set them free in my pond if the fish don't bite:)I also feel less guilty::Salso whats helps to make a noise I attach a large popper head(fly fishing fly foam popper head) a few inches away on my trace........
