Barbel at Hartees

There is still a perception out there that the more pricey your tackle, the more likely you are to catch bigger fish:fbash

This fishing session disapproved that mentality enitirely. I hooked this bad boy on my most "under equipped" setup, a 1/2oz rated Daiwa bass rod and size 2500 Daiwa Sweepfire reel (which was missing a washer under the spool, that I replaced with a piece of plastic!).

What was even more supprising was that I caught a cat, slightly smaller than this, on the same set up the previous night!!

Bait was chicken liver baited on a circle hook.

Awesome fight on light tackle::S

Great catch but that rod and reel are gonna take a beating oonce you get the 15kg jobs and take 10-15 of them in a night.

Skill in using the good tackle is what gets the fish, just as your skill using the worn tackle has got your fish. Top rate tackle just makes the chances of failure less.

Well done on the nice fat cat

Thanks for the comments guys:)

@Jess, that guy that taught me to catch barbel is you bud!I think we need to take a drive to Witbank to sort me out with some proper tackle haha.

@Enigma, agreed, you definately need tackle that is up to standard when landing them bigger fishies. There is no way I am gonna attempt this again haha.
