Hi Guys

Choosing tackle is realy difficult with so many varieties. Im hoping to catch some Shad with spoons this season. I will be using a 12ft rod with Daiwa SL30. What spoon would be recommended and weight. Does water condition and light make a difference.

Reel choice, is multiplier or grinder the prefered option?

Hi RAMZ

SPOONING IS GREAT.....I use my light tip poseidon,,,,daiwa combo.....s BEND SPOONS 4 shad......caught wolf heering...only ever had two strikes on a s bend from garrick......once in the bay from the wharf side at ocean terminal......bass rod scarborough combo.....huge fish...was lunch time saw the boil...caught the fish....just over 9kg's. First run , almost cleared the reel FISH FAUGHT DEEP FOR ALONG time.I use to do citrus export inspections...had an oppertunity to fish every lunch time.the second and only other garrick i caught on spoon was at port shepstone...just over 5kg's.ALL OTHERS ON LIVE BAIT.One snoek...also on S bend ...caught off beach at Acid Pipe south of Toti. The flat sharp edge spoons..can be used for cuda...kingies....snoek.....sandspit for cob at night brass/silver s bend slow wind bounce along bottom....Something to remember when retreiving....have a firm grip on the handle...the strike comes without warning....your hand slips off 80% fish gone..feel the take speed up your retreive raise your rod when you feel fish is well hooked...works for me.Love spooning.....started fishing at a very joung age....Bass...Shongweni Dam.Took the Bass rod to SUNKIST PIER....those days...got hooked on rock n surf....still bass fish...
