Today I had to rush a good friend off to casualty because he had a nasty accident while beaching his jet ski. As he ran it in to get up the beach a bit he must have hit a bump in on the beach and the whole jetski flipped over and landed on him.

He crushed his shoulder and broke 3 ribs. He had to be rushed into surgery to get a titanium plate fitted to repair his shouder. Very bad ending to a fishing outing.

Please watch yourselves when beaching!

Went to visit the boy in the hospital this afternoon. Surgery went well. Collar bone was broken in 4 places and part of it was shattered and had pierced the shoulder muscle. They also found 3 more broken ribs which makes that 6 busted ribs.

Hes doing well though and should go home tomorrow. Man I still cant believe how quickly things can turn nasty.

Hi Guys

It is always bad when accidents happen when we do the things we love doing. Speedy recovery for the oke. Imagine if it happened up in Mos where there is not always medical care available. Even Cape Vidal, Sodwana area. You are stuffed when accidents happen in that area. I had two mates died in a road accident on our way to Sodwana about thirty kilos from Hluhluwe. There is just not medical care in that area. Closest Netcare was from Richards Bay but it was too late. Thats why never fish alone if you can. Mike I am sure was it not for your assistance at the accident it could turn worse.

Best of luck and make yourself safe.

Hi

I fully agree with you BigVan one should never fish by your self if it is possible.  If you do go out then you need to keep constant communication with someone on land. I always ask the family to come see me off and welcome me back.

Sorry to head about your friend Mike

Thats actually a good question. I have launched there quite a few times but apart from the accident on Saturday we had alot of drama from PWCA, Beaches and Recreation and Metro Police. 3 of our bakkies got fined for parking on the beach.....

So to answer your question: Im not sure anymore. I am on the warpath with PWCA at the moment because as far as I am concerned they are tasked with managing a launch site and charge fees for it. In return they provide nothing: no management, no info or conflicting info and no launch controller. I am going to create another thread on this issue as soon as I get a chance and Im phoning the PWCA guy today.

i hope he recovers soon. i think we all guilty of getting complacent and never think that its going to happen to us until one day when it does.

Everone should just be extra careful. and, i agree, we should always have fishing buddies with us when fishing from a jetski.

Good luck with the recovery

Thanks , I was under the impression ( dont quote me ) that you could only

use the site as a recreational ski zone and not for ski fishing launching.Look forward to their response , I witnessed an accident there on Satuday , luckily no one was injured

and sterling work for the rescuer pulling 2  people out the water and getting the capsized ski back to the beach.

Thats the real issue here: the rules are not clear and therefore what are PWCA collecting money for???
