Bass in Arabie Dam

Hey Sid, Are the kurper coming out yet? And how is the security these days? You fishing off a boat?
Check on freshwater venues in the freshwater angling forum on Sealine. I had some questions on Arabie dam and from the answers I got, there is definitely bass in that dam.

Are the camp sites electrified? Are there flush toilets Showers.
Slipway? What are the entrance costs?
Camping costs?
Any other hidden things we should know about?

Ryan ... Not sure about the camping costs. Ablution facilities is fairly basic... nothing fancy. As for what it cost us on the day ... 6 guys entry fee plus boat was R190 for the day. If you don't have a boat you could hire the pontoon for R1000 for the day. That takes up to 10 guys comfortable with an on board toilet.
My two cents worth on Arabi Dam.
I was there when it was still a river, I walked the banks with me pellet gun shooting birds and gueneafowl. This was about 1984/5 or there about??
Then they bult the Dam and I watched it filling up day by day,
I stand to be corrected but the dam only took 2 week to fill to capcity. I used to row out and sit under the, then still growing, akasias and blue gums.
We caugt many kurper and makrielle, no bass though. I can still remember rowing over the farm gates and fence wires, weird. We used to watch the carp and barbel feed in the mielie field, of the cobb, which was then submerged under 2m of water......
Interresting time. At that stage the farm still belonged to the "Dept. van samewerking en ontwikkeling"
I actually still have old pictures of this. I will scratch arround maybe I can still find them

Hi daar
Was by Renosterkop dam gewees om kurper te vang. Die water was mooi skoon maar die kurpers was skaars gewees. Een mooim kurper van omternt 2.5kg gevang en so 50 karpe op erdwurm. Die karpe was maar aan die klein kant gewees so tussen 2 en 3kg. Die locals het vertel dat daar bass in die dam is ek het nog nooit vr bass daar probeer nie. Wat weet julle van dit af.
Daar is nou sekuriteit by die dam. Die dam is 110% vol.

Ja ek het so 2 jaar gelede 'n bass van so kilo in renosterkop gevang (en 4 verloor!). Was nog nie weer daar nie, die sekuriteit was vir my net te dodgy. Lekker structure in die dam, sal graag weer 'n draai daar wil maak...
