Hey...well done Rob - Rob...

What you say we go for a camping session at flatrock...go down Friday night for some high tide Cob/Bellman fishing and try "that rock" on the morning high tide?

I know of a hole which washed open just of the left, must be some fish in there.

We can always patrol to the left, try and catch that illusive cracker...?

Who's in...?

Ahg, with the tide like it was it was more an exploration effort than anything else. Halfjack got a gully shark and I got a gorrie...that means I win the edible competition on default...with a gorrie?

It wasn't at all a dissapointment though. We took out some oysters and black mussels. Rob got more than he bargained for the next morning when sun came up...Halfjack got more than he bargained for when going for a swim...Thanks to the guys who came along...it's always nice being with friends...

Next camp will be Glentana as there are no stairs there.

Post some pics later.

...thanks to the efforts of Sanparks, there is also a residential Black Toby [a.k.a Oystercatcher] breeding pair on site...

...good to see our taxes working for some-one...even if it is for the birds.

This are the little fishy I caught in Sundays river in PE on Boxing Day last year. I think tis a skipjack, although I'd never caught one before, so could be wrong ::rofl:
Hmmm...now lets see if i can insert an image here...
Got it on a Diawa Regal spinning reel with 5.5kg Kingsisher line, and Shimano 7ft spinning rod using a green and silver spoon...Tide was pushing and water was muddy as hell...probably because of aff the dam people water skiing over where I was fishing...lol...I really was not expecting to catch something....But MAN can these things run with your line or what!?
Was great to catch and it even dove down and then jumped out the water after about 20 m or so :)

Skipjack (Elops Machnata)

If there was one estuarine fish that you could truly become obsessed with it is the skipjack, long slim and acrobatic, this predatory fish takes flies readily and gets rid of them just as easily. Skipjack must be one of the fastest fish on the planet and they will strip a hundred metres of backing from your reel in seconds. Jump like tarpon, speed off like bonefish and leave your tackle in tatters if you are not wide awake. The fight of a skipjack on flytackle is truly something to behold. Once caught the solid muscle of the fish just serves to confirm that this is truly a sportfish of note. Skipjack like warm water and don't venture much further south than Knysna. Preferring low light conditions in which to feed, fly anglers usually do better with smaller flies than you might imagine. Primary spots for skipjack include, Knysna, Pletternberg Bay and the Swartkops estuary in Port Elizabeth as well as along the Transkei coastline. Smaller flies, Deceivers, Clousers, Bend Backs, Crazy Charlie's and Mud Charlie's all produce skipjack. In clear water imitative patterns such as surf candies can out fish the others.

Yes please Sir, by review of your fish, I must concur that it is in fact a skipjack...a fine catch Sir...

My uncle has cuaght a couple in EL (slummies) on fly and he reckons when they get about twice this size then you are in for a serious fight!
Would love to get another one sometime :)
